MCA tak percaya Najib/Muhyiddin...

Membaca tulisan Sdra.

I was personally told before the EGM, after the EGM etc that Umno, PM and DPM wanted both our duly elected President and Deputy President to vacate their seats for their annointed 'President in waiting'.

A word of caution to our "most respected" Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister. Liow had used the same respectful tone to Tun Ling Liong Sik and Ong Tee Keat when they were still powerful......

DAP: No sense gaining RM1b from GST to lose RM28b to graft
By Clara Chooi

IPOH, Nov 29 – DAP has urged the Federal Government to reconsider the proposed 4 per cent Goods and Services Tax (GST), claiming it would do nothing to narrow the nation’s current deficit budget and would only further burden the poor and the middle class.

Party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng (pic, left) said that the Government should, instead, concentrate on fighting corruption and realising savings of at least RM28bil annually instead of a mere RM1bil in additional revenue from GST.

“This RM28bil was admitted by Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah as the cost of leakages from having closed tenders in government procurement or just failing to have open tenders for government contracts in an open manner.

“If the government focuses on changing this, there is no need to impose GST on the people to raise funds.

“But unfortunately, the Barisan Nasional is not brave enough to truly fight corruption,” he said in his opening address at the Perak DAP’sn 15th annual convention here today.

In fact, Lim pointed out the supposed RM28bil in losses to corruption annually may even be an under-reported figure.

“As Time Magazine had quoted Daniel Lian, a Southeast Asia economist at Morgan Stanley in Singapore, saying that Malaysia might have lost as much as US$100bil since the early 1980s to corruption,” he said.

Lim said that the proposed 4 per cent GST, which is set to be tabled in Parliament early next year, would not widen the tax base much, seeing as the present budget deficit was over RM50bil.

“So what is an additional income of RM1bil annually? In fact, this GST would only serve to affect 85 per cent of the working population who currently do not pay taxes because their incomes are below taxable levels.

“The impact would be most severely felt on the 38 per cent of the 5.6 million households with income levels of less than RM2,000 monthly or 2.12 million households,” he said.

Lim also voiced disappointment over the “unconditional support” for “Umno’s GST” by MCA Gerakan, SUPP and MIC.

“No MCA minister has defended public interest but has continued to perpetuate this national economic divide by burdening the poor and the middle-class instead of fighting corruption to get more money. Why fear fighting corruption so much?” he said.

Lim also called for the withdrawal of the 15 per cent preferential income tax rates given to professionals in selected areas on the Iskandar Development Region, saying that the benefit should be offered to all professionals in Malaysia.

“Why is it that professionals in other states have to pay 26 per cent? How can there be 1 Malaysia when we have one country and two systems with double standards and discrimination in tax treatment?” he questioned.

BTN Dan Politik Tiga Suku Orang UMNO...

Ini pengalaman yang teman alami sendiri.

Teman tak pernah pergi kursus BTN. Sebab teman tak pernah kerja dengan gomen... Alhamdulillah..

"Bro...miker pernah pergi kurusus BTN?" Dia menyapa teman...

"Idak...kenapa?" Teman bertanya..

"Ate teman barghu balik dari kursus tu semalam...miker patut pergi..!" Katanya.

"Ehh kenapa pulak teman kena pergi? Bagus bebeno ke kursus tu?" Teman bertanya....

"Kalu mike pergi kan... miker balik mesti miker ghasa nak bunuh orang dot dot dot dot ni..!!" Dia dengan bersemangatnya mengkhabokan kepada teman...

"What...are you crazy?

Apa teman khabokan kat dia...

"Aik miker dah tukar kem? Dulu asyik sebut Pak Sheikh...sekarang ni Pak Lah memanjang?"

Kira2 macam "nail in the coffin"lah tu..he he

Tapi yang seronoknya teman melihat ramai golongan dot dot dot dot yang nak dibunuhnya tu melepak kat rumah dia bila dia jadi orang kuat menteri. Sebahagiannya menjadi rakan kongsi dan sebagainya...

"Hmmm...hampeh mamat ni..!!"

Pasal BTN ni teman tanya seorang kawan. Orang senior dalam gomen.

"Miker pernah pergi BTN?" Tanya teman..

"Hmmm 15 J...?" Teman tertanya2...

" Senang aje...Jeng jeng jeng...Jusuh jumpa joyah. Joyah jeling Jusuh. Jusuh Jeling Joyah...Jeng jeng jeng...Khalas!!"

Kah kah kah kah 100x...kami tergelak besor.

Najib’s BTN dilemma

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 28 — Datuk Seri Najib Razak, his deputy Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin next to him, and a number of ministers were thoroughly briefed several weeks ago on the divisive nature of the controversial Biro Tata Negara (BTN) courses compulsory for civil servants and university undergraduates.

At the end of the briefing, the PM spoke of the fear and siege mentality the BTN courses had created, particularly among Malay participants.

“This must end,” he told those present, including Muhyiddin, Datuk Seri Khaled Nordin and Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz.

The Malaysian Insider understands that all of the Cabinet members who were present at the briefing, arranged by Datuk Seri Idris Jala, nodded in agreement.

Najib is now facing increasing pressure to close down the BTN while the hawkish forces in his administration continue to defend what has been called racist brainwashing courses by participants and the Pakatan Rakyat (PR).

PR is now on a campaign to expose what its leaders say are political indoctrination programmes to ensure civil servants and students back Barisan Nasional (BN) and Umno.

An earlier proposal by the Najib administration to overhaul the BTN, or National Civics Bureau, may not be good enough, with more Malaysians speaking up against the courses.

If the government does not shut down the programme, Najib will face the prospect of more talk that his 1 Malaysia talk is empty.

In recent week, a number of former participants which include PR politicians and journalists have spoken of their experiences at BTN camps.

They have pointed to how facilitators would stoke racial superiority, including portraying the Chinese as the most significant threat to the Malays.

PR parties such as the DAP have been portrayed as communist enemies of the country.

A constant theme of the BTN courses, especially for Malay participants, is the emphasis on racial ideology which is strikingly similar to Umno’s Ketuanan Melayu rallying cry, according to the accounts of some former participants.

Government ministers at Jala’s briefing several weeks ago had all privately acknowledged the need for BTN to be revamped.

Jala had spoken on the need to overhaul BTN, to make it more inclusive.

Jala has been charged with the responsibility of promoting Najib’s 1 Malaysia concept.

His team has been incubating ideas which touch on race, religion and other stumbling blocks to better race relations which have deteriorated.

The BTN courses have already been identified as one of those stumbling blocks.

But this week, as the flap grew over BTN, Muhyiddin defended the programme and denied that it was racist.

Instead the Selangor PR government has been the subject of attacks, particularly in the Bahasa Malaysia press, for attempting to ban its civil servants and students at state-owned institutions from attending the courses.

Umno leaders including Defence Minister Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi, a close ally of Najib, have spearheaded a stout defence of BTN as an organization which promoted national unity and was being subjected to unsubstantiated attacks from PR.

While Najib remains overseas attending the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), his ministers and party-owned newspapers have promoted the idea that BTN is a flawless organisation.

They are also criticising PR parties for being unpatriotic or being against national unity.

Such a stand is likely to put the Prime Minister in a difficult position.

The Malaysian Insider understands that there are moves within the administration to dilute the syllabus of BTN courses, as a compromise.

But such half-measures are not likely to be enough if Najib is serious about reversing what many Malaysians see as institutionalised racism.

The question now is whether Najib will stick to what was articulated in private.

ISA SAMAD BAKAL GANTI MOHAMAD HASAN JADI MB NS

Bank Negara probes Negeri MB's RM10 mil fund transferYip Ai Tsin
Nov 27, 09

The central bank is investigating a local money changer which was allegedly involved in the transfer of RM10 million to London by Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Mohamad Hasan in 2008.

Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) confirmed this yesterday but declined to comment further as investigations are ongoing.

"As part of standard investigating procedures, the bank shall inform the appropriate authorities of any findings which fall beyond the scope of the bank's purview for their further action.

"Once the investigation is completed, BNM will refer the matter to the Attorney-General's Chambers," it said in a statement to Malaysiakini.

Earlier, PKR's strategy director Tian Chua claimed that Mohd Hasan (left) could have broken the country's banking laws by allegedly transferring funds amounting to RM10 million through a money changer.

Tian Chua also revealed that Mohd Hasan had used the services of Salamath Ali Money Changer Sdn Bhd to transfer the amount to London.

Hasan keeping silent

Bank Negara had yesterday said that Salamath Ali had contravened Section 30 of the Money-Changing Act 1998 and its licence had been revoked on Oct 26.

"BNM adheres to rigorous monitoring systems and processes in ensuring that our regulatees and licensees function effectively and responsibly as financial intermediaries in serving the needs of the public," it said.

Mohd Hasan, who is also Rantau state assemblyperson, came under fire from the opposition during the ongoing state assembly sitting.

However, he kept mum and refused to give an explanation on the matter.

Opposition representatives have also called on the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to conduct a probe on the scandal.

Husam hijrah ke Sarawak...

Cerita tentang Husam memang menarik la ni. Hari2 mamat tu kena hentam. Umno hentam.. yang hebatnya PAS pun hentam sama.

Tapi ini semua memang teman tak heran langsung. Lama dah orang dok hentam Husam.

Memang betul kata Bakaq a.k.a. Penarik Beca.

Berhati-hatilah...

Ehem..ehem..!! Selangor Bersih Dari Pengaruh BTN...

Selangor rasmi boikot program BTN

Abdul Rahim SabriNov 25, 092:28pm

Talam: No witch hunt, debt recovery first

Kalau itulah peranan Raja-raja melayu, teman amatlah bersyukur.

Dirgahayu Tuanku!!

NST Online 'Ruler's sovereignty protects the people'

SHAH ALAM: The Sultan of Selangor said the ruler's so-vereignty protects the people from mistreatment by certain quarters.

"The absence of a ruler's sovereignty means a lack of authority against elements which seek to divide the people's unity and the government's stability," Sultan Sha-rafuddin Idris Shah said at a discourse on the ruler's sove-reignty here yesterday.

The people, government and ruler cannot be separated, just like parts of the body which would suffer if separated.

"I urge the people and leaders to always safeguard the ruler's sovereignty and the law so that the successes achieved can be enjoyed by future generations."

He said the people of Selangor who came from all walks of life were free to choose their way of life as long as it was in accordance with the law.

"The Selangor sultan's so-vereignty can only be obtained if the people live in peace, prosperity and harmony while the Selangor government develops rapidly and progressively to compete globally.

"If one of the elements is lame or malfunctions, if there is no harmony or progress, then Selangor will become backward and chaotic and the sultan's sovereignty will also disappear."

He said orang besar daerah, penghulu, ketua kampung, imam and nazir should inform the people that one of the functions of the ruler was to ensure that the state administration was run smoothly and fairly so that the people could enjoy the state's prosperity.

"In other words, it acts as checks and balances against the state government's administration."

Tak taulah...Antara kompius dan bengong...

Karpal ridicules IGP’s ‘bizarre’ statement
By Asrul Hadi Abdullah Sani
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 24 – Bukit Gelugor MP Karpal Singh ridiculed the Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan’s statement that if the police are forced to stop questioning witnesses after office hours, it is tantamount to asking the police station to close at 5pm.

Musa added “if that is the case, then those who want to lodge police reports after hours can see Karpal.”

The verbal exchange followed the High Court’s stunning rebuff to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) by ruling that it has no right to question witnesses in an investigation beyond normal office hours, that is, from 8.30am to 5.30pm.

Judicial Commissioner (JC) Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof stressed that the meaning of the phrase “day to day” as laid down in Section 30(3)(a) of the MACC Act – which is at the core of the dispute between Tan and the MACC – “cannot mean round the clock” investigation, which includes recording statements from the witness.

Mohamad Ariff explained that to do so would “offend the legislative purpose” and limit the fundamental liberties of a person, which are clearly laid down in the Federal Constitution, under Article 5, and which the Federal Court had recently upheld must be interpreted in the “widest sense” possible.

The veteran lawyer said that the Musa had missed the point when making the statement.

“The question is not whether witnesses, including victims, voluntarily come forward after office hours to have their statements recorded. The question is whether, in law, they are required to do so, and whether the police can compel them to do so.

“Tan Sri Musa Hassan appears to be thoroughly confused in his approach to the issue,” he told reporters during a press conference in Parliament here.

Karpal explained that Rule 20 of the Lock-up Rules (1953) states that the rest time for suspects is between 6.30pm and 6.30am and therefore they cannot be interrogated during these hours.

“Although Section 112 of the Criminal Procedure Code(CPC) empowers the police to record statements from witnesses, there is no time frame provided for that purpose in that section.

“However, what points towards that direction are the provisions of Rule 20 under the heading ‘time of rest’ of the Lock-up Rules (1953) which state that suspects are required to be confined to their cells from 6.30pm until 6.30am,” he said.

Karpal argued that it does not make sense that a witness is denied this protection when they should be entitled to more protection.

He also slammed Musa’s statement that suspects can be questioned in lock-up under section 113 of the CPC and stressed that the Federal Court had acquitted a suspect when his statement was recorded in lock-up.

“The Federal Court, as far back as 23 July 1983, acquitted Rahmat Satiman, who was jointly charged with former Culture, Youth and Sport Minister Datuk Mokhtar bin Hashim for the murder of Negeri Sembilan State Assembly Speaker Datuk Mohd Taha bin Talib.

“The only evidence against Rahmat was his cautioned statement which was ruled inadmissible as the entries in the station diaries in relation to his being taken out of the lock-up for interrogation, which were confirmed by the evidence of a prosecution witness, showed prolonged periods of interrogation ranging into the early hours of the morning, in breach of rule 20 of the Lock-up Rules,” he explained.

Karpal also urged those who have been questioned as witness beyond office hours to consider filing suits against the police and government for false imprisonment.

‘No sign of any penetration,’ says Anwar’s lawyer

KUALA LUMPUR: Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s sodomy charge cannot stand as medical reports do not suggest that there was any penetration, the High Court heard yesterday.

- Berita Hairan.

'That is your legacy You silenced the voices of dissent in no uncertain terms. And in the end, the monsters your created devoured you in the process.'

Dr M on democracy and sore losers

Suhaimi Said: Dr Mahathir Mohamad, I remember you as a dictator. Hundreds of people were detained under ISA during your rule. So don't talk about democracy. I was a victim of your dictatorship.

Equaliser: Dr Mahathir, you killed democracy in Malaysia - that is your legacy. We don't need people like you anymore in this blessed country. You are a Malay nationalist, that's all. You didn't serve all of Malaysia's people, which include the Chinese, Indians, and other ethnic groups.
A statesman is one who has served his country's people well and promoted democratic values and principles within government institutions and society as whole. You silenced voices of dissent in no uncertain terms. And in the end, the monsters your created devoured you in the process.

Yes, you created monsters greedy for money and power, and who were willing to use any means necessary to acquire them. This country has failed to serve all its people and continues to do so. You began the trend of money politics and this is the result of your actions.

Just watch the news daily and you can see how lop-sided the coverage is in favour of the ruling party, and this right in front of our very own eyes. If only all Malaysians would open their eyes and ears to see and listen, they would know what to do come the 13th general election.

Kris: It has been estimated that during Mahathir's premiership, the amount of taxpayers' money allegedly misused by him and his cronies was in the region of hundreds of billions. To carry out this, he completely destroyed the judiciary and the enforcement agencies by replacing the honest top officials in these agencies with tainted officials who could be blackmailed into doing his bidding.

By having these people under his thumb and by controlling the media and the civil service, he ensured that he literally had dictatorial powers. To make sure that all the crooked deals that he made were not known to the public, he enacted laws like the Official Secrets Act.

In short, he was a premier who manipulated the democratic system to give himself dictatorial powers. That is why it is extremely disgusting to hear this man pontificating on democracy or corruption.

Playfair: It is sad but not surprising that Dr Mahathir continues to peddle half-truths to justify his opinions. He reduces democracy to a one-dimensional event - elections - and fails to refer to other equally important elements that constitute the package called democracy.

He speaks of "sore losers", but what about the 'tyranny of the majority' (which he should be all too familiar with)? A system cultivated and nourished through dubious means and made legal through a two-thirds majority and then used to subvert national institutions to do the bidding of the majority - sore losers are nothing compared to this tyranny.

Asian values were promoted as an ideology to restrict mass political participation, good governance, transparency and accountability. The sacking of Anwar Ibrahim could not have been more un-Asian, not to mention un-Islamic, un-Malay and un-Malaysian (if Umno will allow the use of such a term).

Please keep speaking, sir, so that we can find out how you worked your way to remain in power for so long.

TC88: Talk about sore losers. Mahathir is probably a hypocrite. When Umno was declared illegal and Mahathir's position as its leader and prime minister was sorely threatened, he sacked the then Lord President and the five Supreme Court (now called the Federal Court) judges when he knew the verdict was not going to be in his favour.

Dr Mahathir, you destroyed the very fabric of Malaysia's public institutions, its constitution, the judiciary, the enforcement agencies like the police, attorney-general, and the then ACA

This has been highlighted by Ku Li (Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah) in his speeches. Please do the honourable thing and retire, and just keep quiet like your anointed successor, Pak Lah (Abdullah Ahmad Badawi), the Father of Malaysia's Conscience.

Political Massacre In Philippine...

21 dead in Philippine political massacre
MANILA (Nov 23, 2009) : Gunmen abducted and killed at least 21 people in the southern Philippines on Monday, apparently to prevent a woman filing her husband's nomination to run for provincial governor in elections next year, the military said.

Lieutenant Colonel Romeo Brawner said the bodies of 13 women and eight men were found in the area where about 30 people were taken hostage.

"We believe more bodies are buried," Brawner said. "Unfortunately, the killing happened before our troops got there," he said.

Some of the victims were beheaded, and bodies mutilated, local officials said.

Military officials said the dead included Genalyn Tiamzon-Mangudadatu, who was on the way to file the nomination of her husband to contest the governorship of Maguindanao province against Datu Andal Ampatuan, the head of a powerful local family.

She was accompanied by two lawyers, several members of her family and local journalists.
President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo condemned the violence and ordered her top security officials to "personally oversee military action" against those behind the killings.

"No effort will be spared to bring justice to the victims and hold the perpetrators accountable to the full limit of the law," Arroyo said in a statement read by her press secretary, Cerge Remonde. "Civilised society has no place for this kind of violence."

The southern Philippines is riven by clan rivalries, including one between the Mangudadatus and the Ampatuans. Many politicians and elected officials in the region maintain well-equipped private armies.

Ampatuan has been elected governor of Maguindanao three times previously, always unopposed, although he resigned from the post earlier this year, apparently to circumvent term limits on elected officials.

Of the 22 mayors in his province, most are sons, grandsons or other relatives. Two of his sons have been killed in violence linked to clan wars.

In a 2007 interview with Reuters, Ampatuan said people did not run against him or his family members because they had little chance of winning.

"It's because of popular support," he said. "Because I am so loved by the constituencies of the municipalities, they ask me to have my sons as representatives."

Arroyo has called him a valuable ally in the past. In the 2004 presidential elections, she won most of the votes in Maguindanao. In one town, her rivals did not get a single vote.

Earlier, military officials had said about 100 armed men, several of them in police uniform, had stopped the Mangudadatu convoy at a police checkpoint on a highway and taken the victims to a remote mountainous area.

Remonde, Arroyo's press secretary, said extra troops had been sent to the area to defuse tension. Checkpoints were set up to limit movement and lessen chances of retaliation.

The election process for the May 2010 national polls began last week with the filing of candidacies for more than 17,800 national and local positions.

The official campaign begins in February for candidates running for president, vice president and 12 seats in the upper house of Congress. For those seeking local positions and nearly 300 seats in the lower house of Congress, campaigning starts in late March. Polling is on May 10.

Elections in the Philippines are usually marred by violence, especially in the south, where security forces are battling communist rebels, Islamic radicals and the clan rivalries.-- REUTERS

Husam: Ahad Utusan, Isnin NST, Selasa???

Bukan teman taksub sangat kat Husam...tapi nampak sangat sasaran macam nak mengenakan mamat ni ajer.

NST: Tolong Takutkan Tuhan
Laporan NST semalam, Husam: They go or I'll quit, begitu mengada-ada.

Saya?

Saya menanya diri saya semula. Adakah kami pernah berbincang seperti dilaporkan?

Islam sejak dulu menekankan 'kesahihan'.

Banyak 'It was understood that....' dijadikan sandaran apa yang hendak 'digoreng' oleh NST.

Bukan kerana ruang bicara tertutup sama sekali dan saman sahaja bahasa saya dengan media. Bukan begitu.

Resmi: Ariffahmi Letak Jawatan.....

Menantu Nik Aziz letak jawatan

Wallahu'alam...

Kompom: Pilihanraya di Kota Siputeh

Latest: 3.40pm

High Court orders EC to hold by-election in Kota Siputeh

KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court on Monday ordered the Election Commission to hold a by-election for Kota Siputeh state seat in Kedah within 60 days from Nov 16 when the High Court had ruled the seat was vacant.

In a landmark decision on Nov 16, the High Court ruled that Barisan Nasional’s Datuk Abu Hassan Sarif was no longer the Kota Siputeh assemblyman because he had failed to attend two consecutive meetings of the state legislature without leave.

In declaring the seat vacant, High Court (Appellate and Special Powers) Justice Alizatul Khair Osman Khairuddin also ordered the Commission to call a by-election for Kota Siputeh.

However, she set Nov 20 to hear an application by Abu Hassan and the Commission for a stay on her decision.

She dismissed the stay application on Monday.

Penjelasan Husam...

Begitulah rupanya Utusan Malaysia.

Weblog Husam Musa

Hari ini NST pun turun spin gila...
Husam: They go or I'll quit

Oh..., Mingguan Malaysia!

Dulu saya diserang bertubi-tubi menjelang Muktamar PAS.

Agenda 'mematikan' saya nampaknya belum berakhir.

Apa kata Tok Guru bila saya terus jumpa beliau Khamis lalu?

Jumpa doktor Di Pakar Perdana habis jam 12.30 tengah hari. Jumpa Tok Guru lebih kurang jam 1 sebelum zohor.

"Tak boleh lok (tangguh). Buat (rawat) selalu (segera). Jangan jadi macam ana..."

Saya bercadang masuk hospital hari Isnin. Keluar petang Khamis.

Apa kena mengena sakit belakang saya dengan letak jawatan?

Letak semua pulak tu?

Mana perjuangan saya?

Bolehkah media kita diajar erti kredibiliti?

Doa teman semoga cepat sembuh....

Parliament: PAS' Nasharuddin rushed to IJN

KUALA LUMPUR: PAS deputy president Nasharuddin Mat Isa was rushed to the National Heart Institute after he complained of chest pains while in the Dewan Rakyat at about 11.45am.

A doctor at Parliament ran an ECG test on the Bachok MP before sending him to the heart institute for further tests.

Amin...

Penggali kubor with MJ Glove...

Wallahu'alam....

Antara Che Det dan Chin Peng...

Teman termenung membaca tulisan RPK bertajuk From behind the walls of the A-G Chambers.. Memalukan.

Beliau wajib secara terbuka meminta maaf kepada seluruh rakyat Malaysia sebagaimana Chin Peng apologises for death of innocents .

Dr Pornthip claims being followed to cemetery

Meanwhile, Gobind said Pornthip had told him that she was being trailed by unknown individuals since her arrival here.

He said he had verbally informed the police on this and also arranged for personal bodyguards for the Thai pathologist.

Selangor police chief DCP Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar, when contacted, said if Pornthip felt her safety was under threat, she should lodge a police report and can be assured police will look into it.

Macam mana pula kalau Khalid betul??

Macam mana kalau dakwaan Khalid Ibrahim, MB Selangor betul?

Teman macam ingatlah mamat ni...macam pernah nampak. Kat mana ya??

Khairuddin sudah lantik peguam

PUNCAK ALAM - Ahli Lembaga Pengarah LBCN Development Sdn. Bhd.

1Malaysia Corporate and Business Team: A Formidable Force behind Najib Tun Razak
Everyone knows whenever there’s a change to the premiership not only political landscape changes but also the stock-market landscape. When Mahathir called it a day in 2003 almost immediately his cronies listed companies were affected. The same goes to Badawi although his departure doesn’t have the same impact And now with Najib Razak as the new Prime Minister naturally his cronies, or rather those who are closely linked to him are instantly on investors or punters’ radar.

Malaysia politics and business model is rather unique because you will see both scratching each other for survival and prosperity. This is something that foreign investors find rather hard though amused to accept or understand, not to mention their frustration due to escalating business operating costs.

Dow Jones went crazily above the psychological-level of 8,000-points before profit-taking trimmed the gains and closed at 7,978.08, thanks mostly to G20’s pledge of over $1 trillion to combat global economic crisis. However, the KLCI was marginally down following the release of the external trade data by the statistics department. Malaysia’s exports for February 2009 fell 15.9% year-on-year, while imports were 27.3% lower. Total trade in February was 21% lower at RM67.2bilionl, with trade surplus of RM11.97billion.

If Badawi’s circle of businessmen included Equine Capital Berhad’s Patrick Lim, ECM Libra Group’s Kalimullah Hassan and Scomi Group’s Kamaluddin Abdullah (his own son), Najib’s circle of businessmen is many times larger. So who are the people (and companies) closely linked to the new Prime Minister Najib Razak who could see their fortunes rising?
1) Top on the list is none other than his youngest brother Nazir Razak, CEO of Bumiputra-Commerce Holdings Berhad (KLSE: COMMERZ, stock-code 1023). Perhaps the most business-savvy within the family members Nazir was known for his infamous controversial acquisition of Southern Bank from owner Tan Teong Hean.

After failed the initial attempt Nazir turned to Chua Ma Yu who engineered the downfall of Tan’s Southern Bank ultimately. With the largest lender Malayan Banking Berhad’s (KLSE: MAYBANK, stock-code 1155) in its bad shape would we see Bumiputra-Commerce acquire Maybank to become the largest bank instead?

2) Johari Razak, the second eldest who read law from University of Kent is one of the senior partners since August 2007 at Shearn Delamore & Co , a law firm located at Wisma Hamzah-Kwong Hing. He also holds the following positions:

•Ancom Berhad (KLSE: ANCOM, stock-code 4758): Non-Executive Chairman
•Nylex (Malaysia) Berhad (KLSE: NYLEX, stock-code 4944): Non-Executive Deputy Chairman
•Hong Leong Industries Berhad (KLSE: HLIND, stock-code 3301): Non-Executive Director
•Daiman Development Berhad (KLSE: DAIMAN, stock-code 5355): Non-Executive Chairman
•Tower Real Estate Investment Trust (KLSE: TWRREIT, stock-code 5111): Non-Executive Director
•Deutsche Bank (M) Berhad: Director

3) Mohamed Nizam Razak, the middle brother, studied politics, philosophy and economics at Oxford University in the UK and was a stockbroker, being CEO of PB Securities Sdn Bhd in the 1990s. He also holds the following positions:

•Hiap Teck Venture Berhad (KLSE: HIAPTEK, stock-code 5072): Non-Executive Director
•Delloyd Ventures Berhad (KLSE: DELLOYD, stock-code 6505): Non-Executive Director
•Mamee Double-Decker (M) Berhad (KLSE: MAMEE, stock-code 5282): Non-Executive Director
•Yeo Hiap Seng (M) Berhad (KLSE: YHS, stock-code 4642): Non-Executive Director
•Deutsche Bank (M) Berhad: Director
Nizam Razak together with Syed Mokhtar were once eyeing for the 19.4% stake in DRB-HICOM held by the family trust of late Yahaya Ahmad.

4) Mohamed Nazim Razak, the fourth brother, is an architect who married former host of TV3’s Nona show, Norjuma Habib Mohamed. He also holds the following positions:

•Hong Leong Bank Berhad (KLSE: HLBANK, stock-code 5819): Non-Executive Director
•Hong Leong Capital Berhad (KLSE: HLCAP, stock-code 5274): Non-Executive Director
Nazim is also the Chairman of Meru Utama Sdn Bhd which won a seven-year advertising concession from Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad in late 2007. Besides, Nazim is also a director of Eng Wah Organization Limited, a Singapore-based business involved in cinema operations, film distribution and rental of retail and office space. But of course the multi-billion dollar question is would Quek’s Hong Leong Bank leverage on this latest political landscape to acquire Public Bank?

5) Tan Kay Hock, chairman of Johan Holdings Berhad (KLSE: JOHAN, stock-code 3441) and George Kent (M) Berhad (KLSE: GKENT, stock-code 3204). Both Najib and Tan Kay Hock are golfing buddies and have known each other for a long time. Tan is also a member of the Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA) and owns 49.59% stake in George Kent. Interestingly, Malayan United Industries Berhad (KLSE: MUIIND, stock-code 3891), controlled by Khoo Kay Peng owns 9.3% stake in George Kent and 7% stake in Johan Holdings.

6) Robert Kuok, second PM Abdul Razak and third PM Hussen Onn were childhood friends and their friendship going back to their school days at Raffles School Singapore. Another of their classmate was Lee Kuan Yew, the first PM of Singapore.

Razak juniors used to visit their “Uncle Kuok” and although the Malaysia’s richest man’s businesses are mainly based in Hong Kong, he still has leftovers such as Transmile Group Berhad (KLSE: TRANMIL, stock-code 7000), PPB Oil Palms Bhd (KLSE: PPB, stock-code 4065) and Malaysian Bulk Carriers Berhad (KLSE: MAYBULK, stock-code 5077).

7) Shahril Shamsuddin, owner of Sapura Group is said to have close family relationship with Najib. Companies related included SapuraCrest Petroleum Berhad (KLSE: SAPCRES, stock-code 8575), Sapura Industrial Berhad (KLSE: SAPIND, stock-code 7811) and Sapura Resources Berhad (KLSE: SAPRES, stock-code 4596). He is one of the six trusted individuals personally picked by Najib for ideas on issues ranging from economy, capital markets and general business soon after Najib was appointed Finance Minister.

8 ) Syed Mokhtar Albukhary, the tycoon whose empire is said to be the most comprehensive and includes almost every sector. He also enjoys good relationship with former PM Mahathir and his DRB-HICOM’s assembly plant provides huge employment in Pekan, Najib’s political base. Defence Technologies Sdn Bhd or Deftech, a subsidiary of DRB-HICOM, is the country’s leading supplier of land-based defence vehicles to the Defence Ministry, Najib’s favorite ministry. Stocks related to Mokhtar Albukhary includes:

•MMC Corporation Berhad (KLSE: MMCCORP, stock-code 2194)
•Padiberas Nasional Berhad (KLSE: BERNAS, stock-code 6866)
•Kramat Tin Dredging Berhad (KLSE: KRAMAT, stock-code 2151)
•Amtek Holdings Berhad (KLSE: AMTEK, stock-code 7051)
•Integrated Rubber Corporation Berhad (KLSE: IRCB, stock-code 2127)
•Tradewinds Corporation Berhad (KLSE: TWSCORP, stock-code 4804)
•Tradewinds Plantation Berhad (KLSE: TWSPLNT, stock-code 6327)
•Zelan Berhad (KLSE: ZELAN, stock-code 2283)
Mokhtar also is very close with Muhyiddin Yassin, the Deputy PM and should Muhyiddin become the next PM, Mokhtar is definitely the businessman to benefits the most. Their relationship started when Muhyiddin was the Johor Chief Minister and Mokhtar was building his empire in the state then.
9) Mohamed Azman Yahya, director of Khazanah Nasional Berhad (KNB) and founder and group chief executive of outsourcing firm Symphony House Berhad (KLSE: SYMPHNY, stock-code 0016) as well as ex-CEO of Pengurusan Danaharta Berhad. He is one of the six trusted individuals personally picked by Najib for ideas on issues ranging from economy, capital markets and general business soon after Najib was appointed Finance Minister.Listed companies related to Azman includes:

•Bolton Berhad (KLSE: BOLTON, stock-code 1538): Executive Chairman
•Malaysian Airline System Berhad (KLSE: MAS, stock-code 3786): Non-Executive Director
•PLUS Expressway Berhad (KLSE: PLUS, stock-code 5052): Non-Executive Director
•Pharmaniaga Berhad (KLSE: PHARMA, stock-code 7081): Chairman
•Scomi Group Berhad (KLSE: SCOMI, stock-code 7158): Non-Executive Director
10) Rohana Mahmood, Najib’s milieu and chairman and partner of Ethos Capital, a RM200mil private equity firm. Rohana and Omar Mutapha Ong, a former special assistant to Najib, are co-founders of the boutique advisory firm Ethos & Co. She and another close aide of Najib, Abdul Razak Baginda, are co-founders of the independent think-tank, Malaysian Strategic Research Centre. Najib was chairman of the think-tank, now disbanded. Listed companies related to Rohana includes:

•Paramount Corporation Berhad (KLSE: PARAMON, stock-code 1724)
•TH Group Berhad (KLSE: THGROUP, stock-code 8109)
•Dijaya Corporation Berhad (KLSE: DIJACOR, stock-code 5401)
11) Azman Mokhtar – the managing director of Khazanah Nasional Berhad. He is one of the six trusted individuals personally picked by Najib for ideas on issues ranging from economy, capital markets and general business soon after Najib was appointed Finance Minister.

12) Md Nor Yusof – an ex-banker who was the former managing director of Malaysia Airlines and past chairman of the Securities Commission. He is currently director and chairman of Khazanah’s executive committee. He is one of the six trusted individuals personally picked by Najib for ideas on issues ranging from economy, capital markets and general business soon after Najib was appointed Finance Minister.

13) Mohd Nadzmi Mohd Salleh – chairman and MD of express bus operator, Konsortium Transnational Bhd. The former Proton boss was called upon by the Government in 1996 to revive the ailing public transport company. He is one of the six trusted individuals personally picked by Najib for ideas on issues ranging from economy, capital markets and general business soon after Najib was appointed Finance Minister.

14) Bakke Salleh – Felda Holdings Bhd CEO

15) Lodin Wok Kamarudin – Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera chief

16) Politicians closely related to Najib – Jamaludin Jarjis, Shafie Apdal, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz.

Having said that, it doesn’t mean the old cronies during the Mahathir era would not shine again since the former premier is expected to play important roles in Najib’s Administration to ensure that Najib behaves accordingly.

ISKANDAR: As slow (and lousy) as the founder..he he

Trouble in Iskandar

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 20 — All is not well in Iskandar Malaysia, the country's showpiece economic corridor project.

Two chief executive officers of the Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA) have not lasted two years on the job and there are now rumblings over the slow pace of progress from Middle East investors.

Apart from that, the relationship between some of the main players — the Johor Civil Service (JCS), Khazanah Nasional, Iskandar Investment Board (IIB) — leaves much to be desired.

Unwilling for the situation to unravel further, Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman is signalling his intention to Putrajaya for the state government to take more control of the mammoth project billed as Malaysia's Shenzen to the developed Singapore across the Johor Straits.

He wants IRDA to come directly under the purview of the state government, and rely less on instructions from Khazanah Nasional, the federal sovereign wealth fund tasked with developing the economic zone named after the state Ruler.

The IRDA board is now jointly chaired by the Prime Minister and the MB but The Malaysian Insider understands that the Johor MB could be assigned full chairmanship, giving him control of the regional authority.

Ghani has already started exerting his authority, much to the chagrin of the top brass in Khazanah Nasional. Late last month, he demanded the resignation of the incumbent CEO Harun Johari.

Officials at Khazanah Nasional wanted Harun to be given six more months on the job but last week, the IRDA board quickly accepted Harun's resignation. He will leave in January 2010 for IRDA to have another fresh start.

Harun, an ex-Shell stalwart, was hand-picked by Khazanah Nasional for the top position. He quickly brought in several of his former Shell colleagues to fill senior executive positions, and the organisation ballooned to over 150 staff under his charge.

His critics charged that he lacked charisma but his supporters argued that he is a process-driven individual who was effective behind the scenes. Harun replaced Datuk Ikmal Hijaz, the former Pos Malaysia CEO.

The latter was also hand-picked by Khazanah Nasional to drive IRDA and make it a world-class, one-stop centre for investors.

After being appointed, Ikmal also surrounded himself with several former colleagues from Pos Malaysia or the now defunct Renong Group, in which he oversaw the construction of the Gelang Patah crossing and massive land acquisition in Nusajaya.

The Malaysian Insider has learnt the new CEO of IRDA is Ismail Ibrahim. He is currently director of the National Physical Planning Division under the Urban and Rural Planning Department.

The Muar-born career public servant, who is a British-trained town planner, was among the pioneers assembled by Khazanah Nasional back in 2006 to draw up the Comprehensive Development Plan for the south Johor Economic Region (now known as Iskandar).

He later served as senior vice-president (Planning & Compliance) and became Johor's Federal Commissioner, but quit suddenly to return to the Housing and Local Government Ministry.

Ghani has already told Ismail that he expects an overhaul of the top management of IRDA, wanting him to rid the authority of deadwood.

At least four senior personnel are expected to be removed.

The JCS — a body whose support is necessary if any project is to take off in the southern state — has welcomed the appointment of Ismail.

Relations between the JCS and Khazanah Nasional have been uneasy since the inception of the project in 2006, with Johor civil servants complaining of being sidelined from the decision-making process. They have resented the fact that important decisions regarding Iskandar were being made in Kuala Lumpur.

The shortcomings in IRDA, and to a lesser extend IIB, come at a time when several of the Middle East investors are exhibiting signs of restlessness at the pace of the project.

Government officials told The Malaysian Insider that Khazanah Nasional was forced to buy back some land in Node 1 of Iskandar which it sold to a consortium of Middle East investors. This happened after some disagreement over responsibilities and obligations.

Ekonomi Malaysia Lebih Baik Dari Singapura...

Singapore on Thursday declared a severe recession over as data showed its economy grew for the second straight quarter in the three months to September.

Official data released Thursday showed gross domestic product (GDP) expanded 14.2 per cent in the July-September period on a quarter-on-quarter annualised basis following a 21.7 per cent surge in the previous quarter.

Effectively, the recession in Singapore is over,” Ravi Menon, permanent secretary with the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI), said at a media briefing.

Malaysia pulak tak tau...He said: “I did not say nine per cent, I said around six per cent as nine is not realistic. ”Does Najib really understand economics?

Salahuddin dan Nazri Aziz sedia debat isu royalti minyak

Teman bukan tak suka debat pasal minyak ni. Tapi bior orang lainlah jadi wakil PAS.

Bukan tak kompiden Kelantan tak ada kes tapi...Salahuddin is not wily enough. Nazri memang kaki auta. Itu yang membimbangkan teman...

Lagipun...teman memang selalu senak perut bila Salahuddin jadi wakil PAS bila berdebat.

Leceh...Cukuplah jadi penganjur seminar..!!

Kadang2 kita kena berterus terang yob!!

Remember Manjeet Singh Dhillon...jeng jeng jeng!!

Walaupun IGP in the dark over Bala’s statement to police Nampaknya the plot now thickens..he he

Molotov cocktails thrown at Manjeet's house tonight

I have today at 7.20 pm had Molotov cocktails thrown at my house. The resulting fire caused damage.

I believe this was a warning and threat to me and my family arising from my presence as a lawyer at a recent recording of an interview with the missing PI Bala who is connected to the Altantunya case.

It is tragic that such threats have to be issued. Those who have elected to issue such threats have failed to appreciate that lawyers have a role to play in the discharge of their professional duties. I have no affiliations or ties with any political party or faction and have for the last 39 years of my role as a lawyer maintained that neutrality.

My presence at the interview was as Mr. Americk Sidhu’s lawyer. Mr. Americk Sidhu was the lawyer who acted for PI Bala in the making of Bala’s first Statutory Declaration. My presence and role in this PI Bala interview was apolitical and was to ensure the integrity and voluntary nature of the interview.

Karpal offers to prosecute Lingam

PETALING JAYA: Veteran lawyer Karpal Singh has answered a call by the Prime Minister’s Department and has volunteered to prosecute Datuk V.K. Lingam.

He urged the Attorney-General to authorise him to act for the Government over the issue involving a 2007 videotape showing senior lawyer Lingam apparently making deals over the appointment of judges.

On Tuesday, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz said his office was looking for volunteers to prosecute the controversial lawyer.

“Find anyone who can provide me a section in law to charge Lingam and we will do it,” he told reporters at the Parliament lobby.

“I will speak to the Attorney-General if someone is willing to prosecute him,” he added, proposing that one possibility was Karpal, who is also the DAP national chairman and Bukit Gelugor Member of Parliament.

Nazri noted that this would not be the first time the Government has allowed someone outside the Attorney-General’s Chambers to act for it, citing as an example lawyer Tan Hock Chuan who is handling the inquest into the death of political aide Teoh Beng Hock.

Nazri was quoted last week as saying that Lingam had not broken the law for allegedly lobbying for the appointment of judges and that there was no provision in the law to say that those caught doing so had committed an illegal act.

The Government set up a Royal Commission of Inquiry to investigate Lingam and others implicated in the video, including former Chief Justice Tun Eusoff Chin, Tun Ahmad Fairuz Sheikh Abdul Halim and tycoon Tan Sri Vincent Tan.

The Royal Commission found that wrongdoings had been committed and listed the laws that were breached, recommending further action against the individuals involved.

Nazri offers to let Karpal prosecute Lingam
By Asrul Hadi Abdullah Sani

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 17 - Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz revealed today that Bukit Gelugor MP Karpal Singh can represent the Attorney-General (A-G) and prosecute Datuk V.K. Lingam.

Nazri stressed that the government has no reason to defend Lingam and that veteran lawmaker can charge him.

“If Karpal is willing to represent the A-G, I will persuade the AG to engage Karpal to prosecute on the behalf of the government,” he told reporters at the parliament lobby here. “Let him charge ... the government has no reason to defend Lingam.”

Lingam was implicated in a scandal involving senior judges and found by a royal commission to be the person recorded “fixing” the appointment of judges.

The royal commission found strong evidence against Lingam and in its report suggested that action be taken against him and others implicated in the infamous “correct, correct, correct” recording.

Other figures implicated include Eusoff, Tun Ahmad Fairuz Sheikh Abdul Halim and tycoon Vincent Tan, a close friend of former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Photos also emerged of Eusoff and Lingam together on a holiday in New Zealand in the late 1990s.

Nazri explained that Lingam’s action may have been “morally wrong” but stressed that federal prosecutor could not charge him because there are no specific laws against it.

“Give me a section under any Act to charge Lingam. Give me an offence,” he added.
Karpal sounded surprised when he was later asked about Nazri’s offer.

“I am prepared to charge Lingam on the AG's behalf ... what has to be done now is for Nazri to shoot me a fiat (an authoritative order),” said Karpal.

He also hoped that Nazri would not retract the offer and, instead, help expedite the procedures to allow him to take action against Lingam.

On Friday, the deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin confirmed that the government would leave it up to Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail to decide if Lingam’s alleged role in fixing judicial appointments should be re-investigated.
