Timbalan pengerusi SPR dakwa Pakatan sudah risau kebangkitan BN
June 30, 2011

Menjawab soalan mengenai status Pakatan Rakyat, Wan Ahmad mengakui ia bukan satu badan formal tetapi perikatan longgar.

MEETING ALMOST CANCELLED...HEHE!!

MPAJ councillors arrived at full board meeting inappropriately dressed

THE Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) full board meeting yesterday was almost called off due to the inappropriate dressing of its councillors, who arrived at the monthly meet in bright yellow Bersih T-shirts under their jackets.

Those who did not have the T-shirts still wore yellow-toned clothing including polo shirts.

According to the state gazetted Standing Order (Meetings) (Ampang Jaya Municipal Council) 2007 under Section 38 (1) of the Local Government Act 1976, the chairman may refuse admission to anyone who attends the meeting in improper attire.

The Standing Order further states that councillors’ attire should be either a lounge suit, bush jacket, long-sleeved shirt and tie or national dress with name tag or security pass for men and baju kurung, baju kebaya labuh, national dress or decent dressing with name tag or security pass for women.

Council president Datuk Mohammad Yacob raised the issue of the 22 councillors’ casual attire before the meeting commenced.

In accordance with the Act, a motion was raised by councillor Meor Rithuan Mohamed Said, with the consent of the president, to suspend the Standing Order regarding the councillors’ dress attire. It was then approved by all councillors present.

The motion — that received the approval of all the councillors present — was for the Standing Order to be suspended only for yesterday’s meeting.

“According to section 21 (1) of the same act, Standing Orders may be suspended with a two-third majority vote of the councillors present at the meeting,” Mohammad said, adding that only two councillors, Keppy Wong and Mohamad Samot@Samat, were not present at the meeting.

Mohammad accepted the motion as he did not want the meeting the be disrupted.

“This is an unprecedented event. I hope in future the councillors will not do such things that threaten to disrupt the meeting again,” he said.

Hehe!!

Rahim Thamby back in favor and on the way to Putrajaya
Written by Maclean Patrick, Malaysia Chronicle

Rahim Thamby Chik thought he had it in the bag. The former Malacca chief minister had 'discovered' a sex video tape and decided to approach the powers-that-be in his UMNO party so that he could worm his way back into politics.

And no surprises. They agreed, they were easy to influence, they were only happy give Rahim's flagging political sails a second wind. Provided of course, that he did as they asked.

The Risda boss is not shy about his intentions. He would bring Anwar Ibrahim down, 'chop off' his head and present it to Prime Minister Najib Razak, who is also the UMNO president. And all this in time for the 13th General Election, thus securing for himself a spot as a candidate, most likely in a parliamentary seat.

Bad example from the top

But even Rahim, ambitious as he is, knew he could not do it alone. Gleefully, he roped in his two buddies, businessman Shazryl Eskay Abdullah and former Perkasa treasurer Shuaib Lazim .

They knew that Najib would only be too happy to see his arch rival, Anwar, in distress. As Najib hoped to twist them, they could also twist him back into opening all the doors they needed to stake a claim on the power they wanted.

Disgraced former Negri Sembilan chief minister Isa Samad had done it before, so why not Rahim, the ex-Malacca chief minister. As long as one proved his worth to the party, no mather what sort of modus operandi was used, he deserved a chance as far as Najib is concerned.

After all, the UMNO president himself is always exhorting party members to win, to wrest power, to re-take state governments at 'all costs' and 'by all ways and means'. No wonder, the politicking in UMNO, a once-proud party that stood for Malay intellectualism, is now a party led by a motely crowd of mostly carpet-baggers and rascals - all with an eye to making it 'big-time' in the business world.

The Isa way

Take Isa Samad. Since winning Bagan Pinang, he was appointed to the cushy Felda chairmanship. But few debt this is just a seat-warming post and he will move back into the mainstream of state and UMNO politics. A former chief minister, former federal minister and also a former vice president of UMNO, he has tasted 'big power' and is unlikely to be satisfied being the head of a sprawling agency that is unfortunately is sinking fast due to layers of hidden losses racked up bu those before him.

And much like Rahim Thamby, Isa is a character with a dubious political past. This political has-been had his UMNO membership suspended after being found guilty of vote-buying whilst trying to secure the vice president's seat during the UMNO 2004 convention. Yet, rising from the ashes, he jumped back into the fray in 2009 by winning the Bagan Pinang by-election.

Isa Samad may well have gone the way of the dodo-bird if not for the fact that he was allegedly in possession of several pictures of Najib Razak and Ziana Zain, taken in Port Dickson. Whether Isa used this as leverage, nobody knows but people in UMNO snigger at the way Najib has gone out of his way to bestow the best crumbs to Isa. For example, Najib gave Isa the chairmanship of his prized Felda. Now this is telling.

The manner in which Isa climbed out from his rut was watched with interest by many in UMNO, not least of all by Rahim. As far as Rahim was concerned, he would need to pull some sort of 'Isa Samad' if he was to secure his passage back to the UMNO A-list and thence Putrajaya.

Sex video opened UMNO doors

Rahim is now hoping people will forget he was previously charged for having sex with an under-age girl whilst he was still Malacca chief minister. Being part of a corrupt BN government, Rahim knows well that courts here can be twisted to bring home 'certain verdicts'. In fact, Rahim's rape charge was quietly dropped by the Attorney-General without explanation, although he was forced to spend the subsequent years trolling in the UMNO B and C-lists.

Such was the controversy of this case, that when DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng demanded justice for the 15-year-old girl and her family, he ended up being charged under the Sedition Act for prompting 'disaffection with the administration of justice in Malaysia. Guan Eng was promptly sentenced to 3 years in jail . Even the 15-year-old girl was placed under three years ‘protective custody’ in a home for wayward girls.

But Rahim was spared. No doubt he had to quit his chief minister's post, but he was swiftly rotated into another cushy job as the chairman of rubber development agency Risda.

And it is this Rahim Thamby Chik, fully seasoned by a chequered past, who had the guts to organise a press conference in March 2011 to expose the alleged sexual misconduct of Anwar Ibrahim by screening the by-now infamous Datuk T sex video at the Carcosa Seri Negara.

This was his big ticket to get back to Putrajaya. The players were in place, the government media were all set to splash out the news - Anwar was a goner! Unfortunately, it did not work.

Although, Rahim, Eskay and Shuaib took care to hide their identities, they were found out. They had to publicly confess and admitted they were the Datuk T - T for trio, while there were some who also said T was for Thamby.

Malaysia needs more intelligent leaders

After a long-drawn out smear campaign, finally the police charged the trio in court. And as disgusted Malaysians expected, the courtroom was set-up to further 'highlight' Anwar’s alleged guilt. Big-screen televisions were put up and even a mob of Perkasa members acting as pom-pom goons lined up outside to cheer on the Datuk T trio.

As always, desperate to save face, the egotistical Najib was careful to ensure the government media painted the picture that UMNO and Datuk T succeeded in exposing Anwar. So it was that the lightest of fines were dealt out. Eskay was slapped with a mere RM3,000 fine, Shuaib RM1,500 and Rahim RM1,000. This paves the way for Rahim and Shuaib to contest, presumably on the back of their popularity for nailing Anwar in the sex video scam.

Such is the misguided logic of the Najib administraion. It is no wonder that one of rising calls amongst Malaysian citizens now is, 'We need more inteligent leaders'. Truly, most Malaysians are far more intelligent than Najib and the Datuk T. The courts of public opinion do not subscribe to the views of a corrupted judiciary.

And even if Najib complies with Rahim’s wishes to take a seat in Putrajaya, the people of Malaysia may decide otherwise.

Rahim and his move to Putrajaya

Rahim Thamby Chik thought he had it in the bag. The former Melacca Chief Minister approached Najib Razak and would worm his way back into politics. Najib was easy to influence, given the right incentive, to give him a second wind to his flagging political sails.

The Risda boss was not shy in his intentions. He would bring Anwar Ibrahim down and present it to Najib Razak, in time for the 13th General Elections thus securing himself a nomination spot as a candidate.

But he could not do it alone. Gleefully, he roped in his two buddies, businessman Shazryl Eskay Abdullah and former Perkasa treasurer Shuaib Lazim.

Rahim knew that Najib could be bought in this manner. Najib could be arm-twisted into submitting to handout whatever demands. Isa Samad had done it before and it was this modus operandi that Rahim followed to the dot.

Felda chief, Isa Samad, is a former chief minister, former federal minister and also a former vice president of UMNO. And much like Rahim Thamby, Isa is a character with a dubious political career. This political has-been had his UMNO membership suspended upon being charged with employing money politics whilst in his attempt to secure the vice president seat during the UMNO 2004 convention. Yet, he jumped back into the fray of politics in 2009 by winning the Bagan Pinang by-election. His candidacy to the seat did not go down well with Tun Mahathir who detest the man for his money politicking ways.

Isa Samad would have gone the way of the dodo if not for the fact that he was in possession of several pictures of Najib Razak and Ziana Zain, taken in Port Dickson. Isa used this as leverage to secure his way back into politics and Najib obediently complied, and even threw in the Felda chairman position to sweeten the deal. And as Felda chief, Isa is once again in the midst of big money after announcing that Employees Provident Fund had agreed to loan Felda RM6 billion. Would you trust a man convicted with money politics by UMNO to handle RM6 billion?

Rahim knew that he had to pull an Isa Samad deal in order to secure his passage back to Putrajaya.

It did not matter that Rahim had a previous charge of sex with an under-age girl whilst he was Malacca chief minister, Rahim knew that the courts can be twisted in his favor. He would know best, his charge of rape was overturned due to lack of evidence by the courts.

Such was the controversy of this case, that when Lim Guan Eng demanded justice for the 15 year old girl and her family, Guan Eng ended up being charged with the Sedition Act for prompting 'disaffection with the administration of justice in Malaysia' and promptly sentenced to 3 years imprisonment and the 15 year girl to three years ‘protective custody’ in a house for way-ward girls.

Guan Eng spent time in jail while Rahim was forced to resign from his chief minister’s post and given the Risda chairman seat as a retirement package by the Mahathir regime.

And it is this Rahim Thamby Chik would had the guts to organise a press conference in March 2011 to exposed the sexual mis-conducts of Anwar Ibrahim by producing the now infamous Carcosa sex-tape.

This was his big ticket to get back to Putrajaya. Najib was sure to repay him for this tantamount favor. Najib was sure to grant him a candidacy in the next general election - much like he did with Isa Samad. The courts of law was easy to manipulate, why? Ghani Patail who was instrumental in helping him in his rape conviction was now Attorney General. And the AG can charge him with anything as long as Anwar’s credibility was ruin.

The players were in place and the court room was set-up to further highlight Anwar’s guilt - big-screen televisions and even a mob of PERKASA pom-pom goons to liven up the atmosphere.

And though the media circus paints the picture that Rahim and UMNO/BN had succeeded in their deed, a crucial factor was seemingly overlooked.

The citizens of Malaysia are far more intelligent than the Datuk T trio or UMNO/BN give them credit for. The courts of public opinion do not subscribe to the views of a corrupted judiciary.

Even if Najib complies to Rahim’s wishes to have his place in Putrajaya, the people of Malaysia would think otherwise.

The people of Malaysia have had enough of this blatant abuse of power and corruption to all things right and just. It’s time for change.

Kesian Umno...kesian Polis!!

Cheh..!!

Nik Aziz spent a whooping RM17mil on overseas trips...hehe!!

Oppss... I mean Najib and Rosmah...!!
Written by Melissa Lee, Malaysia Chronicle

Those who have suspected Prime Minister Najib Razak and wife Rosmah Mansor of overspending on overseas trips must have felt vindicated when the government confirmed the couple spent a whopping RM17 million on their official overseas trips during the two-and-a-half year period from 2008 to mid-2011.

"The expenses have been on an increasing trend. For this year alone, it is already almost RM5 million. But what and how have the trips translated into benefits for the people. What trade and diplomate gains has the country received?" PKR MP for Batu Tian Chua told Malaysia Chronicle.

"In 2009, FDI plunged 81%. In 2010, we were far behind Singapore and could only pip Thailand and Thailand was hit by political turmoil. Were the trips justified or were they just super-luxury holidays."

It is also unclear if the amounts included the latest Kazakhstan trip, where Najib and Rosmah allegedly took along a huge 200-member entourage. The official visit had been scheduled to coincide with their daughter's engagement party there. Nooryana, 22, is due to marry a Kazakh scion and after the Kazakh trip, the Najibs celebrated the Malaysian leg with another lavish dinner at Seri Perdana.

Undeniable trend

Meanwhile, at Parliament on Monday, Tian who had raised the question shared with the press the written reply he received from the government.

The breakdown of the figures showed the cost of the first couple's overseas trips shot up from RM1.74 million in 2008 to RM5.4 million in 2010.

And in the first six months of this year alone, Najib and Rosmah had already exceeded the amount they spent for the whole of 2010.

It was also revealed in the summary provided to Tian that Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and spouse had spent on RM8 million during the same period from 2008 to mid-2011.

The DPM's spending also decreased from RM2.75 million in 2008 to RM1.39 million in 2010.

Najib took over from Abdullah Badawi in April 2009. In 2008 and until he took over, he was the DPM. Muhyiddin became DPM in April 2009.

"The figures and the trend of spending shows that Najib and Romah have a predilection for lavishness. When he was DPM, the bill was super high. When Muhyiddin became DPM, and Muhyiddin has travelled a lot so far, the DPM's bill still came down. When Najib became PM and Rosmah the First Lady, the bill shot through the roof."

Kesemua mereka memakai baju Bersih 2.0.

Di antara mereka yang ditahan ialah Ketua Pemuda PAS Kawasan, Ustaz Fazrul Rahimi, SU Pemuda Kawasan, Sdra. Shahril dan anak Azam dan 2 orang lagi. Selamat berjuang bro.

Setakat jam 7.00 petang mereka masih lagi belum dibebaskan.

Lapan lelaki pakai kemeja-T kuning Bersih 2.0 ditahan

Anwar: Najib, I know what you did
Susan Loone
Jun 26, 11

Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim has poured scorn over the prime minister's remark that 'finding the truth" was most important in determining whether the man in a sex video was indeed him.

Since foreign experts had reportedly said the video - showing a couple on a sexual romp in a room - resembled Anwar 99.99 percent, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak had said that the people could judge for themselves as to the authenticity of the tape.

Anwar said Najib and his spouse Rosmah Mansor are not fit to speak about morals, although he did not explain in detail why he made such a snide remark.

"I have been challenged to reveal what I know about Port Dickson," said Anwar, at a ceramah in Pokok Sena last night.

"But it is not my style to insult (cerca) or fitnah (slander) others just because I want to win," added the Permatang Pauh parliamentarian.

"I want to win with good morals intact," he quipped in front of the 700-strong crowd.

Najib was rumoured to have been caught in a hotel room with a celebrity in Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan, many years ago. The incident has since become an urban legend.

Himpunan 9 Julai: Khairy pula terima SMS ancaman bunuh

Ayuh kita boikot City Traders....

They are all useless buggers....

Call it off, say traders

KUALA LUMPUR: Traders fearing for their businesses along the route of the Opposition-initiated Bersih 2.0 rally want the organisers to call the march off.

With memories of chaos resulting from the Bersih and Hindraf rallies in 2007 still fresh in their minds, they are estimating that losses may run into millions of ringgit this time.

Their anxieties are also heightened after both Umno Youth and Perkasa announced plans to hold similar rallies should Bersih 2.0 go ahead with its march on July 9.

Bracing for the worst: Abu Bakar (right) is worried about the consequences the rallies would have on his business.

Textile shop manager Rilla Leritta Ruslan said rallies were a “double whammy” for her because two of her shops would be affected this time.

“During the rallies in 2007, we just had one in Jalan Masjid India. We recently opened a new one in Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman.

“Each shop rakes in RM10,000 in daily sales on weekends,” she said, lamenting that the rallies were scheduled for a Saturday.

Recalling the havoc resulting from the clashes between demonstrators and policemen in 2007, she said many people had sought refuge in the shops then.

“Our customers are mostly families. I remember mothers with babies asking us to give them shelter from the tear gas and water cannons.”

In 2007, both the Bersih and Hindraf rallies had centred around various points in the city, including the National Mosque, Masjid Jamek, Dataran Merdeka, Central Market, Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman and Jalan Ampang, which are tourist hubs popular for weekend shopping and sightseeing.

The street demonstration by Bersih was held on Nov 10, followed by Hindraf on Nov 25.

The resulting chaos caused massive traffic crawls along major roads and highways in the city, damaged vehicles and left shoppers stranded as businesses closed their shutters early.

Salesman Abu Bakar Sidik, whose goldsmith shop is in Jalan Masjid India, said any chaos from the illegal demonstrations could mean a loss of more than RM200,000 in daily sales.

Pointing out that there were many jewellery shops along the road, he said his main fear was that those taking part in the rally might turn aggressive.

“If just 10 men break in, we won't be able to do anything. It's better if all groups have a peaceful discussion.”

Shoe shop owner Yong Fah Chin, whose store is in Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, said he was worried over impending losses.

“We're also afraid our shop may be damaged,” said the 76-year-old, recalling how his customers were forced to wait out the chaos in his store during the rallies in 2007.

Yong, who took over the business from his father, said although the rakyat had the freedom of conducting assemblies, the organisers should hold it in a stadium.

With Bersih 2.0 chairman Datuk S. Ambiga pledging to take to the streets again on July 9 to call for electoral reforms, Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin and Perkasa president Datuk Ibrahim Ali have also announced similar marches on the same day.

However, Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Hussein had said no police permit would be issued.

Umno Youth has right to organise rally, too

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Youth's plan to hold a rally on July 9 is merely to respond to Bersih 2.0's demonstration on the same day, said Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

The Prime Minister said if Bersih could organise a rally, so could Umno Youth.

“If Bersih 2.0 can organise one, Umno Youth also wants to have its own. It's everyone's right as long as it is in accordance with the law,” he said after chairing the Barisan Nasional supreme council meeting at Menara Dato' Onn here last night.

Najib, who is also Umno president and Barisan chairman, said the meeting also took note of various developments related to the proposed Bersih 2.0's rally.

He also denied claims by Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim that he had met with former Malacca chief minister Tan Sri Abdul Rahim Thamby Chik in Parliament on Thursday.

“I did not meet him. There wasn't any meeting. That (the claim) is a lie,” he said.

On another matter, Najib said the coalition had received some 10,000 applications for direct membership from various groups and individuals.

“For now, only some 3,000 appeared to qualify for the membership.

“The final numbers will be known in the next meeting after vetting by the component parties,” he said.

Where is Y.B. Khir Toyo's RM80 Million?
LETTERS/SURAT
Thursday, 23 June 2011

Further examination of the historical financial record has revealed the misappropriation of resources which has directly denied Yayasan Selangor its revenue generating stream where more than approximately RM500 million was plundered and failed to be recorded in the respective Financial Statement of Yayasan Selangor.

By Yayasan Selangor

Yayasan Selangor is an entity duly registered under the Companies Act 1965 as a Company limited by Guarantee. The Yayasan establishment is unique as it is a hybrid of a Trust and a Company. The State Government of Selangor has incorporated Yayasan Selangor as an economic self-sustaining entity via the injection of resources and initial grants. Yayasan's existence is deemed socially desirable by the State Government in discharging the states’ obligations to assist deserving and needy Selangor students towards betterment of their education.

Being a functioning Bare Trust organisation, Yayasan control of management direction is entrusted to a Board of Trustees which is chaired by the Menteri Besar of the ruling State Government. The Board has a fiduciary duty to discharge to Selangor citizens to ensure that Yayasan’s available resources is protected and enhanced for the designated beneficiaries.

The issue raised is the trustworthiness, integrity and how diligent has the Board of Trustee chaired by Y.B. Dr. Khir Toyo been in discharging their fiduciary responsibilities in managing Yayasan’s available resources towards Yayasan's desirable set of objectives and/or prescribed ways.

The measurement or yardstick used to evaluate the Board of Trustee and Management Team performance and effectiveness are:

1. A Balance Sheet ending as at the end of financial year which in the case of Yayasan Selangor is the calendar year i.e. from the month of January to December of any financial year which discloses the resources available to Yayasan Selangor, then.
2. A Statement of Revenue and Expenditure which discloses the flow of liquid resources for the period from January to December of any Financial Year.

Ergo, we shall let the audited records speak for themselves whether Y.B. Dr. Khir Toyo's statement can be substantiated that he left Yayasan Selangor with a cash surplus of RM80 million.

Following are the extract of the audited balance sheet during Y.B. Dr. Khir Toyo's administration:

As at 31st December Total FD/Cash (RM’m)
2000 10.45
2001 15.24
2002 9.42
2003 11.49
2004 12.60
2005 9.75
2006 9.22
2007 22.47

The present State Government’s Menteri Besar took over the Chairmanship of the Trustee Board from Financial Year 2008 and the result of his administration are as per the extract of the audited Balance Sheet, as follows:

As at 31st December Total FD/Cash (RM’m)
2008 45.55
2009 60.86
2010 57.69

Following are the extract of the audited Income Statements disclosing the result for the period of the respective financial year when Y.B. Dr. Khir Toyo held the Chairmanship of the Board of Trustee:

Period ending 31st December (Deficit) / Surplus (RM’m)
2000 (29.06)
2001 (3.65)
2002 (3.57)
2003 (6.06)
2004 (4.98)
2005 6.93
2006 (8.23)
2007 34.77

Net cumulative Surplus/ (Deficit) (13.85)
The results of the present Chairman administration are as follows:

Period ending 31st December (Deficit) / Surplus (RM’m)
2008 127.60
2009 18.69
2010 (5.09)
Net cumulative Surplus/ (Deficit) 141.20

Assets movement in Year 2008-2010:
Period ending 31st Dec Cost as at 1st Jan (RM’m) Additional (RM’m) Cost as at 31st Dec (RM’m)
2008 196.40 114.12 310.53
2009 310.53 2.30 312.83
2010 312.83 5.92 318.75

Further examination of the historical financial record has revealed the misappropriation of resources which has directly denied Yayasan Selangor its revenue generating stream where more than approximately RM500 million was plundered and failed to be recorded in the respective Financial Statement of Yayasan Selangor. Accordingly this led us to believe that there was a Breach of Fiduciary Duty on the part of the Trust of the Board of Trustee during the period of UMNO Mentris Besar pre-March 2008 including Dr. Khir Toyo's administration and the matter has been reported to MACC for appropriate action.

PAS Youth: Any hope?
Mohd Syahir Sulaiman

JUNE 23 — “Allah commands you to render back your Trusts to those to whom are entitled thereto. And whenever you judge between people, to judge with justice. Verily, most excellent is what God exhorts you to do. Verily, God is all-hearing, all-seeing” (Nisa’: 58)

In a recently concluded annual meeting of a mosque, of which I am the secretary-general, one of the mosque jemaah members raised his displeasure over a programme that we organised for the teenagers, namely the Geng Surau Club.

He applauded the activities: inspirational talks, futsal clinic, self-defence, photography, recreational, etc. But he grumbled about the name that we used, “Geng”. It sounds like “gangster”, according to him, at least.

With due respect to his seniority (a Datuk by nature and royal blessing), we enlightened him that in order to exert pull on the so-called Upin Ipin generation, a trendy and catchy term is a must. We need some flexibility here, and he accepted.

Between young and old, exists collision of interest. Even in the US Presidential Election campaign, the disparity is volatile. On one side are younger voters who would debate on fairness and equity, while the older ones would count on economic benefits for retirees.

Back in the Malaysian political landscape, it is estimated that seven million young voters, the so-called Gen-Y, will vote in the coming 13th General Election and their support will determine the outcome.

This composition of young voters could be an early signal of a new political landscape in Malaysia, voicing out structural change in the education, quality of living, employment, democracy, values and fiscal transparency.

High cost of living in Kuala Lumpur is a no secret. A salary of RM4,000 per month is enough for a basic living in Kuala Lumpur, slightly above RM6,000 ensures a decent living, and with RM10,000, the life could be really comfortable.

Instead, a significant 40 per cent Malaysian households still earn less than RM2,300 a month, as revealed by UNDP’s Millennium Development Goals 2010 of Malaysia

Stirring from the failure of the Barisan Nasional government to address concerns on social problems, high cost of living, unemployment, abuse of democracy and lack of transparency and integrity, PAS Youth has forwarded their aspiration to be the champion for the young, to safeguard their welfare and reform the current state of affairs.

In the just-concluded 57th Muktamar (annual general assembly) in Shah Alam, PAS Youth Chief, Ustaz Nasrudin Hassan Tantawi has mooted the offer in his keynote, “Memimpin Kebangkitan Anak Muda” (Leading the Youth Uprising).

Let’s post few questions to Nasrudin. Is PAS Youth ready to lead? What is the execution plan? Where is the destination? The latter will be answered definitely based on its underlying belief in the principles of Al-Quran and As-Sunnah, the former can be analysed based on an empirical situational model, while the middle is up to PAS Youth to execute its strategy.

The readiness of PAS Youth could be assessed by using McKinsey’s 7S Framework. The model is based on the theory that, for an organisation to perform well, these 7 elements need to be aligned and mutually reinforcing, namely structure, strategy, systems, skills, style, staff and shared values. Together these factors determine the way an organisation operates.

Founded on its central beliefs or the shared values of the principles of Al-Quran and As-Sunnah, it is the nucleus and source of motivation for PAS Youth to fulfil its call to enjoin what is good and forbid what is wrong.

This in turn shapes the way PAS Youth see and approach things. In a snapshot, PAS Youth adopted a centralised and functional division structure, which determine the way the organisation’s units relate to each other.

It has almost 165 divisions throughout the country, with active working committee at the central, state, division, and branch level. Their five-year strategic blueprint has laid down key focus area, mainly to gain acceptance and support by young voters for PAS and Pakatan Rakyat.

PAS Youth does have in place a reliable system with proper procedures, process and routines that characterise how important work is done. Besides its administrative system, it has a standard learning and development system, the so-called Tarbiyah system.

They organise periodical usrah (circle of teaching), training and mass gathering, at all level, to instil better understanding of Islam and to equip themselves with the right skill set and human resources. This is considered the glue of their strong brotherhood.

The staff, skill and style frameworks reflect the human aspect of PAS Youth. Being an open membership organisation with multi-discipline of education background shaped its appearance and exposed the organisation with different ideas and approaches. The common characteristic of PAS Youth is the sincerity, volunteerism (particularly its volunteers in Unit Amal), and ethical; the Al-Amin (Integrity) spectrum.

On the other hand, PAS Youth is perceived as lack of competency, particularly to engage in national debate on policy matters. How true is the fact? I believe, PAS Youth do have a number of qualified ulama’ and professionals, diligently building-up core competencies in public and private sector, perhaps outnumbered its counterparts in PR or BN.

As their card-holder identity comes at the price of their jobs, they chose to play it safe and hopefully when the time comes, to PAS Youth we may refer, God willing.

Chris Zook, a prominent business strategist said, “Expanding into adjacent markets is tougher than it looks. Three quarter of the time, the effort fails”.

He then outlined six ways for a business to grow into an adjacent space, namely: 1) Expand along the value chain, 2) Grow new products and services, 3) use new distribution channels, 4) Enter new geographies 5) Address new customer segments, 6) Move into a new business built on a strong capability. Perhaps, PAS Youth could think about it.

I applaud Nasrudin’s engagement with those outside its normal circle, i.e the geng surau, to some extent do have a walkabout in KLCC, Chow Kit, and Pasar Seni to meet and greet the young on the street, besides its IT-savvy Ustaz with YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, blogs, etc. Nevertheless, a lot needs to be done.

As time is not on his side, Nasrudin shall pen down his action forward, to gain respect and trust of friend and foe in gaining support from the young for reform in this country.

Be open for critics and allow differences of ideas. Instil a steep learning curve process within its organisation.

As PAS Youth is proud to be the pipeline for leadership in PAS, it should also position itself to be the pipeline producing more statesman of Malaysia. Always forward looking and continue to engage.

As Ellen Glasgow said, “All change is not growth, as all movement is not forward”.

* Mohd Syahir Sulaiman is a protégé of PAS, always. Besides traveling, he enjoys looking at seeds he planted grow.

KU LI: "SAYA BERCAKAP DENGAN RAJA MUDA PERAK...!!"

Ku Li ni sebenarnya, bak kata orang kampong aku, a Prime Minister material.

Tapi sayang. Selagi dia dalam Umno, jangan mimpilah bro...

Ku Li: Sultan cannot remove MB

TAIPING: Umno veteran Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah said that Perak Sultan, Azlan Shah, did not have the power to remove former Pakatan menteri besar Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin from his post in February 2009.

“The sultan can only appoint the menteri besar but does not have the power to remove him from his post which can be only done if he resigns on his own accord or is removed by a vote of no-confidence in a formal sitting of the (State Legislative) Assembly,” he said.

Razaleigh, who is fondly known as Ku Li, added: “I have even spoken to the Perak Raja Muda about this matter.”

However, the Gua Musang MP did not elaborate on what was discussed.

Razaleigh said there must be separation of powers between the royalty, executive, legislative and the judiciary for the democratic process to be effective.

Before the controversial take-over of the state government by Barisan Nasional, Nizar had sought the Perak ruler’s consent to dissolve the state assembly to hold fresh polls but this was denied.

The sultan instead gave his consent to BN to form the new state government with Zambry Abdul Kadir as menteri besar.

Razaleigh was answering questions from the floor after delivering his keynote address at an event held at the Taiping New Club here over the weekend.

Better management needed

To the question of whether Malaysia would become bankrupt by the year 2019 as predicted by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Idris Jala, the former finance minister dismissed this.

“I don’t buy the theory that the country will go bankrupt (by 2019 ) as God has given us the wealth of natural resources like gas and palm oil,” he said.

He added that the high price of gas and palm oil would keep Malaysia afloat for years to come, but stressed that there was a need to change the bad management of the country’s natural resources and finances.

“Malaysia can enjoy a much better standard of living than Singapore, Hong Kong and Sweden if we manage our finances prudently,” he explained.

On the increasing cost of cars which was going beyond the means of most Malaysians, Razaleigh suggested that protection given to national car makers be removed.

“Free the car market of import duty so that prices of cars will come down and people will have a chance to buy the cars of their choice,” he said.

“We must abolish the AP (approved permit) system as only cronies enjoy the benefits at the expense of the country’s economy. All government tenders must be open so that the government can save costs,” he added.

Asked whether the political uprising in Middle East countries would influence Malaysians, Razaleigh said: “Yes! The influence will be felt especially among the younger generation who are more knowledgeable as the world has become a global village.”

Despite his stinging criticisms, the Umno veteran denied that he would consider switching political camps.

“Pakatan Rakyat is not even a registered political body but a loose coalition. The question of serving the people can be based from any party and not necessarily from Pakatan,” he responded to a question.

ZUL KULIM PEMBOHONG BESAR

Zulkifli bohong, saya sendiri ada bersama Yusuf Qaradawi- Muhammad Nur
Isnin, Jun 20, 2011 Oleh: Mohd Hanyzan Al Muari
19 Rejab 1432H

KUALA LUMPUR: Ahli Parlimen bebas, Bandar Bharu-Kulim, Zulkifli Noordin berbohong apabila menyatakan Ketua Umum KEADILAN, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim memperdaya ulama tersohor Sheikh Yusuf Al Qaradawi.

Tambah beliau, Qaradawi cukup mengenali Anwar sejak mereka mula bersahabat baik ketika Anwar memimpin pertubuhan Angkatan Belia Islam Malaysia akhir 1970-an.

Zulkifli, Anwar perdaya Qaradawi
Oleh MOHD. ASRON MUSTAPHA
mohdasron.mustapha@utusan.com.my

“Kita buat silap, kita mengaku.

Ibrahim raises spectre of May 13 at anti-Bersih rally launch
By Yow Hong ChiehJune 19, 2011

Ibrahim: If the Bersih rally is not cancelled...I believe the Chinese community will have to stock up on food.

KUALA LUMPUR, June 19 — Perkasa kicked off its Bersih 2.0 counter-protest here in Kampung Baru today by burning images of Bersih chairman Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan and issuing a warning to the Chinese to stays indoors as “anything could happen”.

Perkasa Datuk Ibrahim Ali, who earlier appointed himself “war general”, said if electoral reform coalition Bersih goes through with its July 9 rally, he will not be held responsible for any untoward incidents that may occur.

“Imagine if chaos erupts. If the Bersih rally is not cancelled...I believe the Chinese community will have to stock up on food,” he told some 500 supporters at Kelab Sultan Sulaiman here.

“Yes, anything can happen. And so I ask the police to act and use whatever powers are at their disposal.”

PR component parties and activists are gearing up to march on July 9 in the second such rally by election watchdog Bersih.

The first rally in 2007 saw up to 50,000 people take to the streets of the capital, where they were dispersed by police armed with tear gas and water cannon.

The 2007 rally has been credited for the PR’s record gains in Election 2008, where the opposition pact was swept to power in five states and won 82 parliamentary seats.

PAS has promised to bring some 300,000 protestors this year in hopes that it will galvanise support for the opposition in the next general election, expected to be called within a year.

Perkasa has pledged 20 buses from each of the 10 peninsular Malaysian states, in addition to supporters from 164 other non-governmental organisations. Umno Youth has also said it will march on July 9 to counter the Bersih rally.

The greatest mistake Malaysian has made was to make Mahathir as PM...

Abuses due to centralisation of power in PM, says Ku Li
By Shannon Teoh

KUALA LUMPUR, June 19 — Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, who was once close to being prime minister, has blamed the centralisation of power in the office of the prime minister for what he called abuses of power and a decline in democracy.

The former finance minister (picture) said that this has led to a loss of faith in the national economy, as seen from the reported RM880 billion in capital flight since the 1980s.

“It would not have happened in those days. But with the centralisation of power in the office of the prime Minister who had the party under his absolute control, anything was possible!” he said in a speech in Taiping last night, referring to the 1960s when Tunku Abdul Rahman served as Malaysia’s first prime minister.

The Umno veteran, who has challenged for the ruling party’s presidency three times but failed, said there was a “deliberate plan to centralise power in the leadership in a surreptitious manner. Unfortunately the nature of racial politics blinded us of the reality behind certain policies and conduct of leaders at that time.”

“The decline of democracy, the abuse of power, the mismanagement of our economy and the nation’s finances... led to the flight of capital in the region of RM880 billion over the years from the 1980s... the centralisation of power in the office of the Prime Minister and the Attorney General had a major role in this state of affairs,” the Kelantan prince said.

The Gua Musang MP called on Malaysians to reassert “the concept of social obligation and public service in those who seek political office. Power is duty, not a prize.”

The Najib administration allocated RM18.14 billion for the Prime Minister’s Department for the year 2011, almost double the RM10.2 billion for last year.

The allocation amounted to 8.55 percent out of the RM212 billion Budget 2011.

Mahathir: Malaysia muflis jika negara kebajikan penuh

Mat Sabu: Rabble rouser, reformer,,,,

As published in The Sun today.

Goodness, it’s Mat Sabu, was one reaction heard when Mohamad Sabu was elected PAS deputy president a fortnight ago. While most people know him as a political figure, few know that he is married to his college sweetheart and has four children. He is among PAS’s new leaders who feel it is time for the party to wrest control of the government. Mohd Sabu told HEMANANTHANI SIVANANDAM and ALYAA ALHADJRI, in English, how.

Quite a number of people were surprised that you were elected PAS deputy president. They were surprised that for the first time a non-ulama is deputy president, but more surprised that the members elected you, a rabble rouser and a perceived non-intellectual.

I know that's their perception of me. I am aware of that. It is a perception that the newspapers helped to perpetuate. It's all based on the way I make my campaign speeches – loud and full of parodies. I hit out at Barisan Nasional leaders and reserve some choicest words for some of them, I curse and swear at them. But the crowd loves me. But what most people do not know is that I contribute ideas during party meetings especially with Pakatan Rakyat leaders. I also write for Harakah every week.

What do the leaders of the DAP and PKR think of you?

They know I have ideas. And they are willing to try them out.

You said the media helped perpetuate your image as a person who is vocal, loud and brash. But now that you're Number 2, are you going to change that?

I am not going to change my style, if that's what you mean. Now that I am Number 2, I will of course set my sights on Putrajaya. But at the same time, I will keep one eye on Kamunting camp.

You think some people in BN and Umno are worried that PAS has a fighting man as its deputy president?

Of course they are. If not why are they supporting the so-called kepimpinan ulama when they themselves have been always against it? And now that the ulama's role is in a slight eclipse, they are supporting it. Actually they know they are in trouble now. Those things that they have been criticising us about are no longer there. We are de-emphasising those aspects of the party that they have been criticising for a long time. Our party is now more appealing and the team that is leading it is a fighting team.

What is your educational background?

I went to the Bukit Mertajam High School. I remember I gave a speech on the ping pong diplomacy between China and the US in 1971 when I was in Form Five. I was already interested in politics then. I went to the Mara Institute of Technology and did a diploma course in applied sciences. It was where I met my wife, Normah Alwi. I did not complete my studies because I spent too much time with the Islamic Youth Movement or Abim which was founded by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. At that time I was working with ICI Malaysia. In 1978, Anwar and I went to Kelantan to observe the state elections. I wasn't pleased with the way in which they were conducted. A short while later I joined PAS, and a short time after that Anwar joined Umno. At heart I am a democratic activist.

Weren't you several times detained under the ISA?

Yes, some people see me as a budak nakal (mischievous fellow). The first time I was detained was in 1984. At that time, they said I was a radical young man, they said I was very dangerous to our country. After two months in a lock-up, they sent me to Kuala Pilah on restricted residence for two years. Then in 1986 I was released, but in 1987 they detained me again in Kamunting under Operasi Lalang.

In January 1989 when they released me from Kamunting, they put me under house arrest and I had to report every week. When I was at the Kamunting camp, I established good relationships with all the DAP leaders – people like Karpal Singh, Lim Guan Eng, Lim Kit Siang, the late P. Patto, (Dr) Tan Seng Giaw, Dr Kua Kia Song and church leader Anthony Roger. We were there together for one and a half years. We discussed many national and international issues. That is why there are those who say I'm a liberal leader as I can mix with all races.

What is your immediate plan, now that you are deputy president?

My immediate plan is to support Bersih's 2.0 walk for democracy on July 9. For us, what we demand is that the government implement recommendations made by Bersih in 2007, things like postal voting, equal access to the media and automatic registration as a voter on reaching 21.
So you feel there should be automatic voter registration?

Yes, because the political parties, their duty is just to campaign to persuade the people to support your party; it's not to register voters. Developed countries have done this, but in Malaysia, we are still practising a style like it was before independence – our campaign style is like in the 1950s. I was in England once when parliament was dissolved. I waited for a few days, I wanted to experience the rally in Britain, but they did not have it because all campaigns were through radio and television. But we still have to go to the villages every night like in the 1950s; so we are very backward.

You feel strongly about equal media access and that all parties be given time on radio and television?

Yes, the house-to-house ceramah is an old-fashioned way of doing things. We are a developed country. Why do we have to do it this way? But we find ourselves having to because we don't have access to the media. So in terms of campaigning, it is still like 50 years ago. Singapore has also changed. In last month's general election, they allowed campaigning through the media. Candidates from any party were allowed to talk on television and radio. Even Indonesia has this. We are very far behind. So the walk for democracy is also one for freedom of media and speech.

But there is fear among journalists that when Islamic parties come to power, they don't honour the promise of press freedom. We have seen it happening in many countries, not just press, but other freedoms too.

I don't think PAS is like that. We are not like the Taliban or the other parties. We are going to take power through elections. We are going to do it by working with other parties. We will then share power. When you are sharing power, you have to do a lot of consulting with other parties and even NGOs. So don't worry.

And next on your agenda?

Next is to counter what other people are saying about us. To counter their propaganda and to win over the people. Actually now we have to concentrate on the Malays first. Because from by-elections, we can see that there is a little drop in Malay support for us. And we have to work hard to fight such propaganda that should BN lose, DAP will control Malaysia. How can that be? But some people believe (that). Politics is perception. It's not fact, but perception. Like now, they say the Chinese are already in control of Penang.

How to you plan to counter that kind of propaganda or talk?

That's why the Pakatan Rakyat parties plan to go on a massive roadshow. On July 1, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng and I will be speaking at a gathering in Kuala Terengganu. The topic: "PAS ganti Umno". We are going to explain what we are and what we are going to do. We'll move from one state to another.

This thing 'PAS ganti Umno' is going to go to all states?

Yes, all states. Now the fear is not of the Chinese or Indians, but the Malays. This is because of the propaganda in some Malay language newspapers. We have to fight that propaganda. Since we don't have access to media, we have to do roadshows.

Do you really believe in democracy?

Yes, democracy and human rights. My observation is that the Malays are less concerned about human rights issues compared to the Chinese. For example, the Teoh Beng Hock issue – it has been two years but they still continue, but (assistant customs director) Ahmad Sarbani Mohamed, two months and it is almost forgotten.

You think the Malays care little about human rights – are you going to do something about it?

We will plan something. People must be made aware that certain ways of doing things are improper and we must speak up. Not the Malays – they do not speak up for those arrested under the ISA. When PAS people were detained under the ISA, some Umno people said padan muka (serves them right). When the Umno people are detained, the PAS people will say padan muka – that should not be the way. We must enlighten the Malays about human rights and its universality. MCA, Gerakan and DAP have condemned the recent action of the police in marking with a cross the foreheads of some women caught in a vice raid as a violations of human rights.

People say you are close to the Chinese and other races. Why are you seen as such?

I was from Penang from a young age; we cycled through Bukit Mertajam, we interacted with people of all races and talked to them. So from a young age, I have always been exposed to the Chinese and Indians.

Are you aware of the struggles of (former PAS president) Dr Burhanuddin al-Helmy?

My hero. I like him very much because for one thing, he was different from other PAS leaders, more accommodative of the other communities – like Hizbollah secretary-general Hassan Nasrallah in Lebanon. That's why I want to know more about his struggles … all races appreciate what Dr Burhanuddin was trying to do. I want to learn how he was supported by all communities.

During his time, there was less emphasis on race …

Yes, actually during that time if they had conducted a referendum on which leader the people wanted; Tunku Abdul Rahman or Dr Burhanuddin, I believe they would have picked Dr Burhanuddin, but the British detained him under the ISA. I learnt a bit from Dr Burhanuddin and the Lebanese leader Hassan Nasrallah; many people support the Hizbollah leader – artists, sportsmen, etc – because despite his turban, he can be in a coalition with non-Muslims.

That will be difficult here won't it?

It's not difficult really. Of course many of our ulama graduated from Al-Azhar University in Egypt and other universities in Saudi Arabia and other Middle Eastern countries where democracy was little practised. They don't read much on Western civilisation and so have a very narrow world view compared to the ulama in Lebanon who are exposed so much to the various ideologies, trends. That is why they are different and more progressive. They can speak at any forum in America and Europe.

Do you think the 13th general election will be called next year?

Next year. Not this year?

What do you think?

I think next year.

Early next year?

Yes.

Will PAS be ready by then?

Yes. We will be more ready than we were for the last general election.

A lot happened at the recent PAS muktamar. Has or is it going to cause schisms, some break-ups among the members?

For the time being, thank God, no. And we are hoping all members are with us and behind us. That's why we are out on the ground explaining what happened.

Who do you think would lead the Pakatan Rakyat should anything happen to Datuk Seri Anwar?

We cannot see into the future; anything can happen. But one thing I know is that the non-Muslims trust PAS now, much more than before. I have met so many who said "we believe in you". That means no problem if any of our leaders were to become prime minister. The Chinese are not worried and neither are the Indians.

But has there been any discussion among the Pakatan leadership on this issue?

Not yet, not yet, we have not discussed it.

How are you going to convince the more conservative, like the ulama? Because there has been talk that not all of them can accept this "new leadership".

The ulama in our party are very much influenced by Nik Aziz (Nik Mat) and Abdul Hadi Awang. So if these two favour me, there is no problem with the other ulama. Nik Aziz praised me at the muktamar to such an extent I felt uncomfortable ... too much praise for me.

But he did not quite like you some time ago?

I don't know about that, but he knew that when I gave speeches in Kelantan, I could attract larger crowds than he. He mentioned that in his speech at the muktamar.

Is PAS what it is now because of its association with the DAP and PKR? Or would the party be what it is even without their influence ?

Yes, because of association with them. For instance the last time when we matched seats with candidates, we were guided by certain criteria. If a majority Malay constituency, PAS would contest; majority Chinese, DAP; while a mixed seat was suitable for Keadilan. But it is not going to be like that in the coming general election. Now we can contest a mixed seat too – after Dr Siti Mariah won in Kota Raja, a non-Muslim majority parliamentary constituency. Muslims only 47%. And there are so many seats like that in Selangor, so it is very different now.

It's no longer based on the majority race in the constituency?

Yes. But BN cannot do that, we can – that is the big difference. Like me, I feel I can contest under the PAS banner in Bukit Bintang against MCA and win. The Chinese will vote for me, I believe now.

You're confident of that?

Yes, I'm confident. But not to contest against DAP.

PAS is now downplaying its Islamic state objective, saying it is more for a welfare state. Umno's response to that is that it has implemented the welfare state concept for a long time.

They can say anything they like. For instance, when we say we are fighting for an Islamic state, they say they have already made the country Islamic. When we say we are opting for a welfare state, they say they have already been implementing it.

They say that because they want people to know that your party has abandoned the Islamic state objective. And that your struggle now is only for a welfare state.

To me it's the same thing. Welfare state or Islamic state. No real difference. The state of Madinah that was headed by the Prophet Muhammad SAW was actually referred to as thoyibatun warabbun ghafur (welfare state) in the Quran. It was not referred to as an Islamic state. Only years later did some people refer to the state that the Prophet headed as the first Islamic state.

PAS ulama refer to it as the first Islamic state.

It's also referred to as baldatun thoyibatun, which means good government. That's it.

But PAS too has changed a lot. Those early days I remember, campaigners would sleep in the villages so that they could be with the people during the elections. It's no longer like that now, they stay in hotels.

True. We also have to correct that. But me, I am always with the people; that's why they like me. And I am maintaining that lifestyle –whenever I am back in my kampung, I would go out to Sungai Kulim to catch fish using a net. It is not acting. I like doing it.
