Battle brewing in Petronas...

Heads may roll at Petronas over Omar affair

KUALA LUMPUR, June 30 — A battle of wills could be shaping up between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and the board of Petronas over the non-appointment of a confidant of Najib to the oil firm’s board. In the worst-case, it could result in heads rolling in Petronas.

BT had reported that on June 24, Petronas’s board decided to defer the appointment of Omar Mustapha pending an explanation to the premier of the reasons behind the board’s disapproval.
The meeting, which could happen this week, will be led by lawyer Kadir Kassim, a member of the board. Omar, 38 and an Oxford-trained economist, was an aide of Najib until he moved to Ethos, a consultancy firm.

This is the second time the board has objected. Sometime in May, the board rejected Omar on the grounds that he’d defaulted on a Petronas scholarship given him almost two decades ago.

The episode has sparked a debate in the media over the issue of corporate governance and alleged government interference in Petronas, which happens to be Malaysia’s only Fortune 500 company and contributed 45 per cent of government revenue last year.

The problem with the board’s obstinacy, however, is that it runs afoul of the articles of association of the oil firm. In a statement yesterday Petronas founder-chairman Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah weighed in on the debate in support of Omar.

The prince, who was a former finance minister, said any board member who “disagrees on point of principle” with the premier “should resign”. That was because the firm’s articles “give the premier the absolute power to appoint and remove every single member of the board and management”.

That is a problem because Najib had, apparently, given clear instructions that Omar be appointed to replace non-executive director Tan Sri Zaki Azmi, now the current Chief Justice.

On May 12, according to the premier’s allies, Najib first brought up Omar’ appointment in a meeting with Tan Sri Hassan Merican, the acting chairman and chief executive of Petronas. This was followed by a letter the next day by Najib to Hassan stating that he “agreed” to Omar’s appointment.

After the board rejected the appointment, Najib told Hassan to reconsider the rejection, notably in a private golf game in Beijing during a state visit there, the allies said.

The standoff has been exacerbated by its public airing and could have hardened stances all-round. What Merican’s allies fear is that Najib could misconstrue the matter as an act of insubordination.

Merican’s contract is up for renewal in February but many oil executives had been hoping it would either be renewed or he would be retained as chairman with a successor from within Petronas becoming chief executive.

Merican is highly respected in the industry and any untoward action against him could roil the oil firm’s international bonds.

Omar’s chances don’t look good either. He possesses an over-achiever’s share of detractors which includes former premier and Petronas adviser Mahathir Mohamad. In addition, even Najib’s allies concede that the current climate has been ‘poisoned’ by the controversy.

Omar declined comment but the allies furnished BT with a copy of a June 23 letter he wrote to Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. In it, Omar explained that when he left Petronas for a state agency in 1997, it was with Merican’s verbal consent on “national service” grounds.

After three years, he joined McKinsey in London triggering a legal suit from Petronas which Omar claimed not to know about. In 2004, he joined Najib and found out about the suit which was then resolved by a settlement signed with Petronas in 2005.

Omar said he joined Ethos, which he co-founded, in 2006 only after its head died but had agreed to serve Najib as and when required. He said he wrote to Petronas “regarding my scholarship obligations or payment” but the firm never replied.

Omar lamented in conclusion that the media campaign against him had turned “vicious and personal and, at times, racial”. He is the son of Mustapha Ong, an ethnic Chinese convert to Islam. — Business Times Singapore

Even Swine Are Laughing At Us

Just because it was very hard to pronounce H Satu N Satu for kampung people and I was not happy about it, I would call it swine flu even it was actually influenza A(H1N1).

By LIM MUN FAH/ Translated by SOONG PHUI JEE/ Sin Chew Daily

I have mentioned before that Malaysian humour was not funny at all. But this time, I laughed, and I could not stop laughing.

I laughed that some people were so naïve and some people were so pathetic while some made Malaysia well-known in the world.

I laughed as when the whole world knew that the southern Malaysia has become the latest A(H1N1) influenza infected area, our Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Ismail Merican still insisted that it was only a rumor.

I laughed as we had a new definition for the word rumor, which means that other than the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, Health Minister, Health Director-General and Director-Generals of other ministries, words from others are all rumors.

I could not stop laughing as when the whole world was following the World Health Organisation’s instruction by calling the new influenza A(H1N1), Information Communication and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Rais Yatim intended to force state-run radio and television Malay programmes to used “swine flu” as it was confusing by calling it H Satu N Satu.

I laughed as the name of a new influenza could actually be changed based only on a minister’s preference.

Just because someone did not take my face into account and I was not happy about it, so I would say no even it obviously did have.

Just because it was very hard to pronounce H Satu N Satu for kampung people and I was not happy about it, I would call it swine flu even it was actually influenza A(H1N1).

These reasons seem ridiculous, but don’t be surprised; they are from our Health Director-General and Minister. I am sorry; it was us that think these are ridiculous, they are alright with it.

For some public figure, face saving would be the priority and they could just turn the truth into a lie. For them, prejudice could cover up everything and they could talk black into white. They could simply confuse right and wrong.

They claimed it was to avoid confusion but the people had never been confused before. But they are now confused and wonder whether there is influenza A(H1N1) in Johor and what is A(H1N1) to do with swine?

The influenza has become more and more serious but our ministers are still acting weird like this. It is not only the world is laughing, but swine are laughing at our ignorance, too!

Malaysia-Thailand Joint Development Area (JDA)

Penang sacks Johari from MPSP
By Adip Zalkapli

SEBERANG PRAI, June 29 — The Penang state executive council today sacked Parti Keadilan Rakyat’s (PKR) Johari Kassim from the Seberang Perai Municipal Council (MPSP).

State executive councillor in charge of local government, Chow Kon Yeow told The Malaysian Insider the state PKR leaders had been consulted before the decision was made.

“It was a unanimous decision of the excos,” said Chow.

PKR has three representatives in the Penang executive council.

Earlier this month, Johari led eight local councillors in a boycott of the swearing-in ceremony for MPSP president Mokhtar Mohd Jait.

The action resulted in DAP leaders calling for Johari’s resignation for insubordination.

Johari, also a Penang PKR committee member, claimed that the DAP-led state government had promised the council presidency to PKR.

PKR leaders were subsequently displeased when Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng decided to appoint a civil servant to the post.

Johari’s sacking comes amid worsening relationship between the two Pakatan Rakyat (PR) parties over a host of issues in the state administration, including the recommendations for state awards.

PKR lawmakers are said to be unhappy with government’s policy of not giving state awards to PR leaders.

The Muslim Council in Britain condemned the study for ' stirring up hatred'.

A spokesman said: 'Sharia councils are perfectly legitimate. There is no evidence they are intimidating or discriminatory against women. The system is purely voluntary so if people don't like it they can go elsewhere.'

Malam tadi Anas mengingatkan teman. Sebaik aje teman angkat kaki...Ustaz menceritakan pasal hadis-hadis palsu berkaitan bulan Rejab.

1.) Hadith yang diriwayatkan oleh asSilafi bahawa Rasulullah s.a.w. bersabda : "Kelebihan Rejab atas segala bulan bagaikan kelebihan Al-Quran atas segala zikir; kelebihan Sya'ban atas segala bulan adalah seperti kelebihan Muhammad atas segala para Nabi dan kelebihan Ramadhan atas segala bulan bagaikan kelebihan Allah atas segala hambanya." Hadith ini adalah Maudhu'. Sumber: Himpunan Hadis Dhaif dan Maudhu' (Jld 1) - Drs Abdul Ghani Azmi- m.s. 517

Manakala An-Naqqassi iaitu Abu Bakar bin Muhammad bin Al- Hasan An- Naqqassi dituduh berbohong Sumber: Himpunan Hadis Dhaif dan Maudhu' (Jld 1) - Drs Abdul Ghani Azmi- m.s. 529, kasyful Khafa hadis no 13585.)

5. Hadis mengenai kelebihan solat-solat tertentu:

3.Kita perlu berhati2 dlm menukilkan hadis2 kerana dibimbangi kita mendustai Rasulullah SAW.

The Genuine Islam,' Vol. 1, No. 8, 1936."

"If any religion had the chance of ruling over England, nay Europe within the next hundred years, it could be Islam."

dan Napoleon Bonaparte...

"If people followe the way of Islam, there would be true harmony and brotherhood in the world at long last."

Teman petik dari blog http://abamuaz.blogspot.com/ tentang Pengajaran Surah al Muddassir

1. Wahai orang Yang berselimut!

Ayat ketujuh - Hendaklah kita bersabar kerana tuhan. Bersabar melaksanakan perintah Allah. Bersabar menyebarkan dakwah Islam.

Hassan Ali Di Masjid Bukit Indah.

Jermaine Jackson: "May Allah be with you Michael, always. Love you."

22 November tahun lalu teman menulis pasal Tak da politik: Michael Jackson Masuk islam.

Michael Jackson’s family has issued their first statement on the passing of the entertainment legend.

Jackson’s older brother Jermaine spoke briefly to reporters at UCLA Medical Center on Thursday, just hours after Michael’s passing.

“This is hard,“ he said tearfully before reading a brief statement outlining the events surrounding his brother’s death.

Jermaine Jackson said that it is believed that Michael suffered a heart attack and added that his personal physician, who was with him at the time, immediately attempted to resuscitate him.

When paramedics arrived on the scene he was not breathing and was rushed to the hospital.

“May Allah be with you Michael, always. Love you,“ Jermaine said at the conclusion of the prepared statement.

Cancer Update from Johns Hopkins:
1. Every person has cancer cells in the body. These cancer cells donot show up in the standard tests until they have multiplied to a fewbillion. When doctors tell cancer patients that there are no morecancer cells in their bodies after treatment, it just means the tests are unable to detect the cancer cells because they have not reached thedetectable size.
2. Cancer cells occur between 6 to more than 10 times in a person's lifetime.
3. When the person's immune system is strong the cancer cells will bedestroyed and prevented from multiplying and forming tumours.
4. When a person has cancer it indicates the person has multiplenutritional deficiencies.... These could be due to genetic, environmental, food and lifestyle factors.
5. To overcome the multiple nutritional deficiencies, changing dietand including supplements will strengthen the immune system.
6. Chemotherapy involves poisoning the rapidly-growing cancer cellsand also destroys rapidly-growing healthy cells in the bone marrow, gastro-intestinal tract etc, and can cause organ damage, like liver, kidneys, heart, lungs etc.
7. Radiation while destroying cancer cells also burns, scars anddamages healthy cells, tissues and organs.
8. Initial treatment with chemotherapy and radiation will often reduce tumor size.... However prolonged use of chemotherapy and radiation donot result in more tumor destruction.
9. When the body has too much toxic burden from chemotherapy and radiation the immune system is either compromised or destroyed, hencethe person can succumb to various kinds of infections and complications.

10. Chemotherapy and radiation can cause cancer cells to mutate andbecome resistant and difficult to destroy. Surgery can also causecancer cells to spread to other sites.
11. An effective way to battle cancer is to starve the cancer cells bynot feeding it with the foods it needs to multiply.
12. Meat protein is difficult to digest and requires a lot ofdigestive enzymes. Undigested meat remaining in the intestines become putrified and leads to more toxic buildup.
13. Cancer cell walls have a tough protein covering. By refrainingfrom or eating less meat it frees more enzymes to attack the protein wallsof cancer cells and allows the body's killer cells to destroy the cancercells.
14. Some supplements build up the immune system (IP6, Flor-ssence,Essiac, anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals, EFAs etc.) to enable thebody's own killer cells to destroy cancer cells. Other supplementslike vitamin E are known to cause apoptosis, or programmed cell death, thebody's normal method of disposing of damaged, unwanted, or unneeded cells.
15. Cancer is a disease of the mind, body, and spirit. A proactive andpositive spirit will help the cancer warrior be a survivor. Anger, unforgiveness and bitterness put the body into a stressful and acidicenvironment. Learn to have a loving and forgiving spirit. Learn torelax and enjoy life.
16. Cancer cells cannot thrive in an oxygenated environment.Exercising daily, and deep breathing help to get more oxygen down to the cellular level. Oxygen therapy is another means employed to destroy cancer cells.
A. Sugar is a cancer-feeder. By cutting off sugar it cuts off one important food supply to the cancer cells. Sugar substitutes like NutraSweet, Equal,Spoonful, etc are made with Aspartame and it is harmful. A better natural substitute would be Manuka honey or molasses but only in very sma ll amounts. Table salt has a chemical added to make it white in colour. Better alternative is Bragg's aminos or sea salt.
B. Milk causes the body to produce mucus, especially in thegastro-intestinal tract. Cancer feeds on mucus. By cutting off milkand substituting with unsweetened soy milk, cancer cells are beingstarved.
C. Cancer cells thrive in an acid environment. A meat-based diet isacidic and it is best to eat fish, and a little chicken rather than beef or pork. Meat also contains livestock antibiotics, growthhormones and parasites, which are all harmful, especially to people withcancer.
D. A diet made of 80% fresh vegetables and juice, whole grains, seeds, nuts and a little fruits help put the body into an alkalineenvironment. About 20% can be from cooked food including beans. Freshvegetable juices provide live enzymes that are easily absorbed andreach down to cellular levels within 15 minutes to no urish and enhancegrowth of healthy cells. To obtain live enzymes for building healthy cellstry and drink fresh vegetable juice (most vegetables including beansprouts) and eat some raw vegetables 2 or 3 times a day. Enzymes are destroyedat temperatures of 104 degrees F (40 degrees C).
E. Avoid coffee, tea, and chocolate, which have high caffeine. Greentea is a better alternative and has cancer-fighting properties.Water-best to drink purified water, or filtered, to avoid known toxinsand heavy metals in tap water. Distilled water is acidic, avoid it.

TGNA: Zaini Hassan (UM) vs Amir Muhammad (Malay Mail)

Tadi teman terbaca ulasan blogger Hamirdin mengenai tulisan Zaini Hassan yang menyindir TGNA...MALU MENGAKU TERPESONA DG NIK AZIZ . Zaini Hassan membelasah TGNA semahu2nya..kanan dan kiri.

Tapi apa nak heran yob?

PULP FRICTION: Tomyam and theocracy
Amir Muhammad
Wednesday, June 24th, 2009 12:27:00

I RECENTLY attended a ‘live’ talk by Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, even though there was no byelection in sight. It was on a Kota Baru street on a Friday morning.

He spoke for almost an hour but thousands of people stayed put. It’s a weekly ritual known as sekolah atas tembok, which in this context translates to mean ‘school on the street’ rather than ‘school on a concrete wall’. He didn’t have to raise his voice;

Edited by Annual Bakri Haron (Anbakri, 2009, 218 pages)
the 78-year-old is a skilled orator who makes people want to stay quieter in case they miss something.

He made them laugh, make them nod and kept them keen. I initially thought this book was a collection of speeches by the Pas Spiritual Adviser and Kelantan Menteri Besar, but it’s rather different. His actual words consist mainly of 29 things that he has said.

Each saying is then placed at the beginning of each chapter as an aphorism; a well of wisdom, as it were, which the editor then draws upon. Some of the homely wit then becomes dissipated in favour of literal explication.

His gift is his ability to talk about politics and religion (and he belongs firmly in the camp of those who do not ostensibly separate between the two) in images that are rooted in everyday lived experience. Take this: “When our wife cooks tomyam, she doesn’t create the salt, carrot, chicken, or water; she merely arranges these existing ingredients into a pot.”

This isn’t some sexist attempt to discredit the poor woman’s cooking. It relates to how people must always be conscious that everything around us is on loan from the Creator. And so tomyam gets placed in its theocratic context.

There are few politicians who’ve had not only the Tok Guru’s staying power but enduring appeal. (Take a look at the upper echelons of, say, the MIC, to see that ‘staying power’ and ‘enduring appeal’ don’t always go together). Although he might shun such a comparison to a Shi’ite leader, the prevalence of his pictures in Kelantan shops and houses can only be compared to how Khomeini was once used as an emblem of resistance.

The only quote from Nik Aziz that doesn’t get extra explication here starts with: “I am scared of worldly titles like Yang Amat Berhormat (Most Honourable), because in the Afterlife, it might become the reverse.” Another example is Yang Amat Arif (The Most Learned) becoming Yang Amat Bebal (The Most Stupid).

Speaking of “worldly titles”: his humble lifestyle is a big reason for his popularity, but there’s something more. Anyone who has been to a boarding school can see how Kelantan Malay guys would always band together and create almost an autonomous entity.

It’s not for nothing that the only local film title of recent years to actually reference a State happens to be Budak Kelantan – and this is a State with no cinemas! This desire to be seen as different also extends to politics. Be that as it may, an interesting creative tension emerges when you realise that, in his speeches and this book, Nik Aziz rejects the idea of communal separation on the basis of ethnicity or locality.

Ketuanan Melayu (Malay supremacy), for example, is an assabiyah (tribalist) concept, and contemptible because of that. What I mean by creative tension is that this universality is consciously articulated in a vernacular that is local (Kelantanese) and proudly so.

This isn’t hypocrisy but what the sociologists among us would call “local genius”. More than any other Pas leader at present (the only contender would have been the late Fadzil Noor and, further back in its illustrious past, the more towering figure of Burhanuddin al-Helmy), Nik Aziz has never seemed to be a mere politician, but the embodiment of a certain hope, a certain dignity.

That’s why politicians from the other side of the fence who go and promise to bless the State with “development” seem hilariously off the mark. People there already feel quite blessed, thank you very much!

Menjawab persoalan semalam...

Semalam teman menulis Ke mana arah PAS dari kacamata bukan islam?? .

This is terrible ...

MACC chief plays coy, frustrates PAC probe into PKFZ
By Neville Spykerman

KUALA LUMPUR, June 23- Tempers flared today during the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) inquiry into the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) scandal when the head of the anti-graft agency refused to answer most questions thrown at him over its ongoing probe.

The Malaysian Insider understands Datuk Seri Ahmad Said Hamdan had stonewalled the bipartisan parliamentary committee by repeatedly citing legal provisions which he said prevented him from giving specific answers to questions from the lawmakers.

According to sources, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief's stance frustrated Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua to such an extent that he lost his cool and shouted at the government officer, accusing him of being in contempt of Parliament.

Pua also accused the MACC chief of double standards, citing Ahmad Said’s eagerness recently to make public statements about an ongoing investigations for alleged graft against Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim.

Ahmad Said remained silent and refused to respond to the accusations.

When asked about previous reports on corruption and abuse of power lodged in relation to PKFZ in 2004, Ahmad Said said the old files had all been closed because it was concluded that there was no wrongdoing.

These included reports alleging a former transport minister had provided financial guarantees from the government for the project when he was not authorised to do so.

Asked if he still stood by the findings of the earlier investigation, Ahmad Said said he could not comment because the matter was still being investigated.

Ahmad Said also refused to disclose the identities of the 15 witness called so far by the MACC to assist in the probe.

He said the MACC would take up to six months to complete the probe.

The PAC was supposed be briefed last week on the MACC’s investigation into how PKFZ’s initial cost of nearly RM2 billion could rise to RM12.5 billion because of various discrepancies.

However the PAC inquiry was delayed when Ahmad Said failed to appear before the committee, sending MACC investigation director Datuk Mohd Shukri Abdul instead.

When contacted after the session, Pua refused to comment on what had transpired, saying only “Wait for the report”.

Briefing reporters later, PAC deputy chairman Dr Tan Seng Giaw said the committee was briefed on the land acquisition for PKFZ as well as the letters on guarantees provided by a minister.

When asked if the committee was satisfied with Ahmad Said’s explanation, Dr Tan said it was not a matter of being satisfied as the inquiry was an ongoing process.

He said the committee would meet again next Tuesday to decide if the Attorney-General (AG) should be called to the inquiry.

Teaching of maths and science in English a flop
By Syed Jaymal Zahiid and Neville Spykerman

KUALA LUMPUR, June 23 — The teaching of maths and science in English the last six years has not improved the performance of students in those subjects, the education minister admitted today.

“There have been changes but the difference is nominal,” said Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

He said there had only been a two to three per cent change since the policy was implemented in 2003.

The deputy prime minister was responding to a supplementary question by DAP’s Tan Seng Giaw in Parliament.

The Kepong MP said the policy had been in existence for six years and asked for the reports on its effectiveness to be made public.

The education minister also said that the government, after much delay, will make a decision on the issue by next month. It is expected to continue with the programme, while finding ways to accommodate differing views.

Muhyiddin's reply drew flak from opposition MPs, who accused the government of negligence for its refusal to shut the policy down despite admitting to having problems in implementing it.

Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad from PAS said it was obvious in the minister's response that the government is not fully prepared for the implementation of the policy and students are being victimised as a result.

"It is apparent that they are not fully prepared for this and have not taken into account the implication and the repercussion," he told a press conference in Parliament.

He added that it was absurd that the government realised the programme's failure only after six years it has been implemented.

"Don't make our children guinea pigs," said Khalid, adding that teaching maths and science in English won't upgrade students' English quality, suggesting that it would be better for the government to focus on getting the best teachers to teach the international language instead.

Quo vadis PAS?

JUNE 23 — PAS is an interesting political creature. As you all know, it was started by a group of Umno members who were unhappy with Umno's “secular” outlook and early on wanted an Islamic model for Malaya, and later Malaysia.

In the early years, PAS was closeted in the Malay belt of Kedah, Terengganu, Kelantan and Perlis. Kelantan and Terengganu were always its stronghold. It could not break out electorally into the other states.

In 1973, it was caught up in Tun Razak’s new unity government called Barisan Nasional (BN) and joined. Three years later, in 1977, it was booted out of BN for undermining the BN in Kelantan after PAS was split into a pro-Umno and anti-Umno faction. Since then it has been an opposition party.

Until the early 1990s, PAS was still very much closeted in the Malay belt. Although it was part of the Gagasan Raykat thing led by Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah in 1990, it was still unable to break out of the Malay heartland. Its mantra of an Islamic state was deemed unacceptable to the Chinese community and DAP paid a heavy price for “sleeping” with PAS via Semangat 46 in 1990. Who can forget the infamous MCA slogan “a vote for DAP is a vote for PAS and Islamic state”?

Hence the recent PAS inroads into the non-Malay community is remarkable to say the least. PAS's clever public relations — the slogan “PAS for All” — was a masterstroke. The term “Islamic state” was put in small letters and PAS leaders began to talk about issues dear to all Malaysians — justice, poverty, end of racial discrimination, etc. No doubt the electorate was happy to accept PAS since many of the non-Malays were caught up with ABU — Anyone but Umno.

Using the “PAS for All” slogan finally allowed the party to escape the Malay belt. Now the party had national aspirations. The problem was now it has to face PKR, in addition to Umno, for votes. PKR is not so much a problem as Umno.

The bottomline for PAS is this: Is it an Islamic party trying to create an Islamic state? Or is it a party that stands for Islam and Malay nationalism?

This question has been with PAS since Day One and it has yet to be answered in a conclusive way. IF PAS is for the establishment of an Islamic state, then it will have problems with DAP and all the non-Malay BN parties. If it is for Malay race and Islam, then how is it different from Umno?

The recent PAS congress saw this ambiguity rise to the surface. While there were many resolutions about making Islam the centrepiece of all government policies, the Youth wing also passed a resolution calling on the party to retain the 30 per cent cap for Bumiputera businessmen. As we all know, the “30 per cent” catchphrase is synonymous with Umno.

Since Islam does not condone racism and all Muslims are equal, you really have to ask if the PAS Youth call is against the true spirit of Islam since in practice it is racial/religious discrimination. The call is in line with Malay nationalism but not an Islamic state. (I wonder what the PAS Supporters Club has to say about this resolution?)

The call for “unity” talks by one faction in PAS is also a manifestation of this ambiguity. Let us be frank. The “unity” talks are all about Malay unity and will lead to an all-Malay/Muslim government, if successful.

Hence what is the difference between PAS and Umno? The difference may be in the way the delegates dress but in substance, there may not be much of a difference. Many in the PAS Youth are graduates in Islamic studies (courtesy of the BN’s government in setting up Islamic studies courses in almost all public universities) from local universities and they cannot escape the notion of equating being Malay with Islam.

The big problem for PAS in Malaysia is that, unlike other Islamic countries in the world, the constitutional definition of a Malay includes religion, Islam. Thus PAS cannot separate race from religion unlike the situation in Indonesia or Iran. If PAS were based in Indonesia, I’m sure none of the delegates will talk about the 30 per cent.

Until PAS resolves this problem of the Malay race being equated with Islam, it will have to walk along the same road as Umno. The only question is whether it wants to travel in the same car or different car.

Mahathir tak nak orang Najib dalam Petronas...

Ini cerita pasal kroni. Najib nak letak kroni dia dalam Petronas tapi Mahathir tak nak kroni orang lain...semuanya mesti kroni dia. Maklumlah 'Bapa Kroni Negara.'

Najib’s bid to put aide on Petronas board hits snag

KUALA LUMPUR, June 23 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s bid to appoint his key aide as a director of Petronas is being resisted by the board and could put the Premier at odds with the national oil corporation's influential adviser, former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

According to senior government officials, the board of directors of Petroliam Nasional (Petronas) raised reservations over the proposal to appoint Omar Mustapha at its monthly meeting last month.

Omar is one of the premier's closest political confidants.

The reservations were made on the grounds that he had defaulted on his scholarship loan agreement with Petronas two decades ago.

Najib, however, is determined to have Omar appointed as a director. He ordered the Petronas board to review its position over the appointment at a meeting this week, the government officials said.

Petronas officials have declined comment, and Omar could not be reached.

Dr Mahathir, who government officials said has been briefed about the situation, told The Straits Times yesterday that it was Najib's prerogative as Premier to “appoint a man who failed to honour his obligation to Petronas when he was given a scholarship by it”.

“Generally, I would say that it is not a good thing to appoint such a person,” he said in a written response.

Najib's office did not respond to requests for comments.

Petronas, Malaysia's only company on the Fortune 500 listing of the world's most profitable companies, is considered to be the country's most efficiently managed state-owned corporation.

Incorporated in August 1974, the corporation has firmly established itself as a global energy player over the last two decades. It currently operates in over 30 countries, and its overseas operations, including exports, account for more than 75 per cent of its revenue.

Many oil industry experts and bankers credit the oil company's phenomenal growth to the government's hands-off approach to the running of the oil corporation.

Omar, 38, has emerged as one of the closest political confidants of Najib and is often tapped for advice on economic and financial matters.

“A politician in Petronas may have other agenda which may or may not be in keeping with the national interest,” Dr Mahathir said in his comments to The Straits Times.

He added: “I think it is far better if no politician is allowed to interfere with commercial decisions which may not be good for the corporation.”

Positions on the board of Petronas and its subsidiary companies have traditionally been reserved for very senior civil servants and prominent private sector personalities.

Omar graduated from Oxford on a scholarship from Petronas in the mid-1990s and worked briefly with the national oil corporation and another government-linked corporation.

He then joined McKinsey & Co, where he worked for the international consulting company in London and Malaysia.

He left McKinsey in early 2002 to set up his own consultancy firm called Ethos with several close friends. Two years later, he was tapped by Najib, who was then the deputy prime minister, to become his special officer.

Government officials familiar with Omar's proposed appointment to the board of Petronas said that the national oil corporation takes a firm view against scholarship defaulters.

Omar did not complete the required number of years of service with the oil corporation or a related government agency as stipulated in his scholarship agreement. — The Straits Times

Sign of firm and fair leadership. Ride on Tok Guru!!

Nik Aziz: Lupakan sengketa, rapatkan saf, lawan Umno

1. Pakatan sepakat tolak k'jaan perpaduan

2. Nik Aziz tarik balik minta Nasha keluar PAS

3. Husam, Mat Sabu terima anggota jawatankuasa pusat PAS

Bak kata kawan teman, Hj. Osman...

Unity gov't: A united 'no' from Pakatan
S Pathmawathy Jun 22, 09 3:18pm

Pakatan Rakyat's top leadership today unanimously rejected the formation of a unity government with Umno or Barisan Nasional.

The PKR, DAP and PAS leaders reiterated their commitment to the opposition coalition with the aim of forming the federal government someday.

This was revealed in a joint statement inked by Opposition Leader and PKR supremo Anwar Ibrahim, DAP's Lim Kit Siang and PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang.

"The Pakatan council of leaders has reaffirmed its rejection of the idea of forming a unity government with Umno/BN which is clearly a malicious and desperate attempt to compromise the integrity of the increasingly popular Pakatan Rakyat," read the statement.

The statement was issued after its leaders held a one-hour 40 minute meeting to discuss the matter in one of the meeting rooms in the Parliament building.

This was followed by a six-minutes press conference to announce the decision.

Besides the three main leaders, others present at the meeting were PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, her deputy Syed Husin Ali, vice-presidents Azmin Ali and R Sivarasa.

Others include DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, DAP Cheras MP Tan Kok Wai, PAS secretary-general Mustafa Ali, vice-president Mahfuz Omar and central committee member and Bukit Gantang MP Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin.

Discuss issues of national interestMeanwhile, The Pakatan leaders said they were willing to discuss with BN on matters of national interests and had identified several areas.

These include economic recovery, improving the quality of education, restoring the integrity of the judiciary, abolishing the Internal Security Act and the handling of the RM12.5 billion Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ).

Other areas include the blatant abuse of power by the police, increasing crime rate, eradication of corruption, establishment of good governance and the holding of an immediate free and fair election to resolve the Perak crisis.

PAS president Abdul Hadi also assured that differences between party spiritual leader Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat and deputy president Nasharuddin Mat Isa "will be resolved tonight.

"PAS will hold its central committee meeting tonight where this matter, including the unity talks with Umno, are expected to be the main agenda.

Previously, Nik Aziz told Nasharuddin to quit PAS and join Umno in relation to the latter’s support for holding unity talks with Umno.

Kalau Zaid Ibrahimpun kompius...

Lintang pukanglah nampaknya...

Wow..amboi mak oi!!

Ya ustaz ya...sumpah ustaz sumpah!!

If sodomy case dropped, 'Allah's court' will decide
Jun 19, 09 4:25pm

If it is fated that the sodomy charge against Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim is dropped, his accuser Mohd Saiful Bukari Azlan said he will accept the decision.

However, the 23-year-old youth reminded his former boss that he might escape justice in this world, but not in the hereafter.

Mohd Saiful - who was Anwar's former aide - stated this in a brief posting on his blog in response to the politician's application to strike out the charge.

"I'm at a loss for words... If it is fated that the case be dropped in the 'court of this world' (makhamah dunia), it is okay, I will accept. Because later in Masyar (Court of Allah) it will he heard again.

"As an humble servant of Allah, I can only pray, and leave everything to Him for He is the most just and powerful," read the posting.

Mohd Saiful also cited two Quranic verses which stressed on the importance of being patient and the fight for justice.

He ended his blog with the Malay adage, 'Yang hak pasti berdiri, Yang batil pasti jatuh' (The right will surely stand, the wrong will surely fall).

Medical report: No penetration

However, Mohd Saiful's posting made no mention of the bombshell dropped by Anwar's lawyers yesterday that the most important element needed to stick a sodomy charge was missing from the medical report prepared by Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL).

The lawyers claimed that the report revealed that there was no evidence of penetration on Mohd Saiful.

Anwar was alleged to have sodomised Mohd Saiful at a condominium in Bukit Damansara on June 26, last year.

The court is to hear the case beginning July 1.

The opposition leader has claimed that it is a political conspiracy, similar to the one allegedly conceived in 1998 which resulted in his sacking as deputy premier and subsequent imprisonment.

Painting a grim picture, Anwar said today that the worst-case scenario will be a quick conviction that will land him behind bars again.

Sodomy case: Report shows no sign of penetration
S Pathmawathy Jun 18, 09 2:56pm

Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim's lawyers today disclosed that the most important evidence needed to stick a sodomy charge on the politician was missing from a report prepared by the Kuala Lumpur Hospital.

They said that a medical report released by the hospital has revealed that there was no evidence of penetration on Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, the complainant on whom the criminal case was based.

A copy of the medical report was attached to an affidavit filed by Anwar yesterday to strike out the sodomy charges. The case is to be heard beginning July 1.

The medical report was dated July 13, 2008 and was endorsed by three specialists from the government hospital.

Part of the report, which was provided to members of media today by Anwar's lawyers, stated:

"No conclusive clinical findings suggestive of penetration to the anus and no significant defensive wound on the body of the patient (Mohd Saiful)"."The most vital evidence in a rape or sodomy charge is to show proof of penetration," said Anwar's lawyer Amer Hamzah Arshad.

And it is missing in this case, he added.

MACC chief’s absence holds up PKFZ inquiry
By Shannon Teoh

KUALA LUMPUR, June 17 - Datuk Seri Ahmad Said Hamdan’s failure to turn up in Parliament today has delayed the Public Accounts Committee’s (PAC) inquiry into the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) debacle.

The delay has further knock on effects as the full report with appendices made up of official documents into the RM12.5 billion scandal will only be distributed to parliamentarians together with the PAC’s final findings into the matter.

The PAC was to have been briefed today on the MACC’s investigation into the scandal which has seen the initial cost of RM2 billion balloon up to RM7.5 billion with another RM5 billion expected to be incurred due to refinancing interests on its outstanding debts.

But PAC chairman Datuk Seri Azmi Khalid told reporters that he decided to postpone the briefing with the MACC to next Tuesday as chief commissioner Ahmad Said had failed to turn up for the briefing.

“The MACC had sent its investigation director Datuk Mohd Shukri Abdull to attend the meeting but PAC cannot proceed with authority without the MACC chief present and he must appear before the PAC,” he added.

Azmi had also fended off an attempt to force him to withdraw from the PKFZ inquiry as called for by DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang.

Lim had written a letter to Azmi asking him to step down because it would be a conflict of interest as the latter was a Cabinet minister between 2004 and 2008.

In that period, the Cabinet took various decisions on the issue including the retrospective approval of the four letters of support issued by former transport ministers, Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik and Tan Sri Chan Kong Choy which allowed turnkey developer Kuala Dimensi to raise RM4 billion in bonds as well as an RM4.6 billion loan to refinance PKFZ’s debts in 2007.

The letters of support gave the appearance of government guarantees for the bonds but only the finance ministry is legally allowed to do so, calling into question the role of the two former MCA leaders.

Azmi claimed that he had conferred with all members of the PAC and the majority of including two opposition MPs disagreed with Lim’s request although he did not reveal who the two MPs were.

It is understood that DAP and PAC deputy chairman Tan Seng Giaw had been one of those who called for Azmi to step down as requested by Lim.

Azmi explained that he would be exposed in Parliament if he had not acted fairly as all discussions in PAC meetings are recorded and tabled to Parliament.

“So I have decided not to withdraw based on the opinion of my colleagues and on the fact that PAC does not have executive power except to ask relevant authorities to investigate the matter.

Nasharuddin: Nizar did not brief party

KUALA LUMPUR, 16 June 2009: PAS deputy president Nasharuddin Mat Isa has refuted reports that top party leaders did not support Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin's actions in Parliament yesterday that led to his suspension.

"I didn't say that I was distancing myself [from Nizar]. But how he wanted to do it, [we were] not briefed," Nasharuddin said today, adding that the embattled Perak menteri besar's actions were "spontaneous".

Nizar (File pic) Yesterday, after his swearing in as Member of Parliament (MP) for Bukit Gantang, Nizar led shouts of "Bubarkan DUN!" and "Hidup Rakyat!" in demanding for the Perak state assembly to be dissolved.

Nizar and seven other MPs were subsequently suspended from the house for two days after refusing to remove headbands which said: "Bubar DUN!!"

Speaking to reporters in the Parliament lobby today, Nasharuddin, however, refused to say whether he supported Nizar's call for the dissolution of the Perak state assembly.

"Whether I agree or not agree, the incident has already happened," Nasharuddin said.

"The message that (Nizar) wanted to send has reached the world," he said. "It proves that the Perak state opposition is not happy with the political upheaval."

Nasharuddin was responding to an Agenda Daily news report yesterday that concluded that "PAS leaders did not support Nizar's actions that caused uproar in the Dewan Rakyat".

On possible PAS talks with Umno on a national unity government with the Barisan Nasional (BN), Nasharuddin said: "Our stand is that PAS is always open to speaking to anyone. This was a decision from our muktamar in Ipoh in 2008, and was mentioned again in (PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang's) policy speech at this year's muktamar."

"The issue of PAS entering Barisan Nasional does not arise at all. It is not in the agenda of any PAS leader," Nasharuddin said.

"But we are not shutting out the opportunity to talk to anyone. We feel we have a part to play in developing this nation," he added.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak was quoted as saying that Umno was ready to hear PAS's unity government proposal.

"I accept the prime minister's response with an open heart," Nasharuddin, who has come under fire within PAS for supporting talks with Umno, said.

However, Nasharuddin said he would not be able to answer on the party's behalf as Hadi was presently overseas.Nasharuddin added that he would bring possible talks with Umno to the attention of the Pakatan Rakyat (PR), of which PAS is a member together with DAP and Parti Keadilan Rakyat."We will hold a meeting with PR leaders at the next possible opportunity," he said.

Talks notwithstanding, he said this would have no effect on the upcoming Manik Urai by-election.

"We are ready to face Umno in Manik Urai," Nasharuddin said.

PBT Selangor: Beberapa Orang Ahli Majlis bakal digugurkan...

Baru setahun dah kena gugurkan. Wah efficient giler kerajaan Selangor. Baguslah begitu.

One in five Selangor councillors likely to be replaced

Several names tipped to be among those dropped

Mixed reactions to major changes

Buek peghabih bogheh jer...

Umno open to ‘marriage’ with PAS
By Lee Wei Lian

KUALA LUMPUR, June 16 — Umno is still open and ready to hear PAS’s unity government proposal which Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak described as sincere for the national good.

"It's not that there is no response. I have said before, we are open and ready to hear their proposal. We have never rejected cooperation for national good," Najib said today when asked about the lack of response to the PAS unity government offer.

When asked if he feels the Islamist party is sincere in its intentions, the Umno president replied: "Yes, I sense they are sincere."

Asked further whether the unity government would ever happen, Najib said that they are at the beginning and likened the process to a marriage proposal.

"We have to risik risik (investigate) first. Like if we want to get married, we have to investigate first. Whether it happens or not, takdir menentukan (it is up to fate)."

PAS president Datuk Seri Hadi Awang had offered to form a unity government with BN during the party's general assembly earlier this month, an offer which was warmly received by top BN leaders but met with criticisms by other Pakatan Rakyat leaders.

PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat called PAS leaders intending to form a unity government with the Barisan Nasional as "Umno puppets".
