JERUSALEM, May 31 — About 15 people were killed today when the Israeli navy intercepted a convoy of aid ships that activists were trying to sail to the Gaza Strip, Israel’s Channel 10 private television network said.

According to news reports, a Malaysian television crew were also on one of the ships that were boarded.

Earlier, a spokesman for the Free Gaza Movement which organised the six-ship flotilla said at least two were killed.

Casualties could hurt Israel’s international image and diplomatic relations, especially its long-time regional Muslim ally Turkey, whose flag some of the aid ships were flying.

Israel has said it was absolutely determined to maintain its blockade of the Islamist Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip, a Palestinian territory of 1.5 million. It has previously halted such activist ships, although others have reached Gaza before.

Amid Israeli military censorship and a refusal of Israeli officials to comment on what appeared to be a continuing operation three hours after dawn broke over the Mediterranean, Channel 10 made clear it was not citing foreign sources.

After initially reporting that at least 10 people were dead, it later said the death toll was between 14 and 16. It said commandos who had boarded the convoy were still conducting searches and encountering what it called violent resistance.

“Two people have been killed on board the Turkish boat and 30 or more were wounded,” said Mary Hughes Thompson, a spokeswoman for the Free Gaza Movement, which was behind the convoy.

“As far as we know IDF (Israeli military) commandos descended on the boat from helicopters and took it over.”

The convoy set off in international waters off Cyprus yesterday in defiance of an Israeli-led blockade of the Gaza Strip and warnings that it would be intercepted.

The flotilla was organised by pro-Palestinian groups and a Turkish human rights organisation. Turkey had urged Israel to allow it safe passage and said the 10,000 tonnes of aid the convoy was carrying was humanitarian.

Turkey, long Israel’s best Muslim friend and a key ally in a hostile Middle East, was highly critical of Israel’s attack on Gaza 18 months ago, in which 1,400 Palestinians were killed. Relations between the two states are now distinctly chilly and bloodshed at sea will do nothing to improve them.

CNN showed pictures of a commando apparently sliding down a rope and clashing with a man wielding a stick. Other TV images showed what appeared to be rubber boarding launches.

France 24 television aired video of a woman in a Muslim headdress holding a stretcher with a large bloodstain on it. Below her lay a man, apparently wounded, in a blanket.

Israel had said it would prevent the convoy from reaching the Gaza Strip.

Israel and Egypt tightened a blockade on Gaza after Hamas took over the territory in 2007. Israel launched a devastating military offensive in Gaza in December 2008 with the aim of halting daily rocket fire towards its cities.

Most of the 1.5 million Palestinians living in Gaza rely on aid, blaming Israel for imposing restrictions on the amount and type of goods it allows into the territory.

The United Nations and Western powers have urged Israel to ease its restrictions to prevent a humanitarian crisis. They have been urging Israel to let in concrete and steel to allow for post-war reconstruction.

Israel denies there is a humanitarian crisis in Gaza, saying food, medicine and medical equipment are allowed in regularly. It says the restrictions are necessary to prevent weapons and materials that could be used to make them from reaching Hamas. — Reuters

Saiful: Najib said he couldn't do anything

The Kuala Lumpur High Court heard today that then deputy premier Najib Abdul Razak told Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan that he 'could not do anything” when the latter complained he was being sodomised by Anwar Ibrahim.

Saiful, 25, the star prosecution witness in the ongoing sodomy trial, said he had met Najib at his private residence in Taman Duta, Kuala Lumpur, on June 24, 2008.

He told Najib (left) that Anwar, the de facto PKR leader, had sodomised him both in the country and while abroad.

“Najib told me, he could not do anything as this is a personal problem and involves Anwar. It also involves my future,” Saiful said under cross-examination.

Anwar's lead counsel Karpal Singh had asked whether Najib had given him any advice.

Saiful said Najib was sceptical and shocked to hear the complaint, but could not say if the deputy premier had lodged a report over this.

The former aide to Anwar said he had also informed SAC I Mohd Rodwan Yusof, Najib's former police aide, Mumtaz Jaafar and former PKR Youth chief Ezam Mohd Noor about his predicament.

“They did not say anything,” he claimed.

Karpal then asked if Saiful is aware that it is an offence for anyone to withhold information and not to make a police report if they know a crime has been committed.

He pointed out that Section 13 of the Criminal Procedure Code requires an individual to give information on such matters on the commission or intention of a person to commit offence.

If such information is not disclosed, Karpal said, the offender can be punished under Section 202 of the Penal Code with six months' jail.

Saiful replied he was not aware of this, leading solicitor-general II Mohd Yusof Zainal Abiden to ask the relevance of the question.

Karpal said that, as a DPP and senior officer in the attorney-general's chambers, Mohd Yusof should know the relevance, especially since Section 13 has been amended to include Section 377.

This led to an exchange between the two, until Justice Mohd Zabidin Mohd Diah intervened and ordered a recess.

'Ezam and Mumtaz worried'

When the proceedings resumed, Saiful told the court that no one had advised him to make a police report.

He said that, when he met Mumtaz and Ezam (left), they had advised him against lodging a police report as they were worried about his future.

The view, he said, “was also shared by my uncle (Tuah), Rahimi (his friend who had worked at Anwar's office) and an ustaz” whom he had consulted.

Saiful said the ustaz, whom he called 'Atuk', passed away three months ago. This was met with laughter from the public gallery.

Anwar moves to prove alibi

KUALA LUMPUR, May 31 — Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has insisted on a visit this afternoon by the High Court to the condominium complex where he was alleged to have sodomised a former aide, in order to help establish an alibi in his ongoing sodomy trial.

Anwar’s lawyer, Karpal Singh, said the defence was waiting for the police to give the green light for Anwar’s team to visit the scene of the alleged crime.

“We want to have a relook at the place. We can have a look at it and it will be done before trial resumes at 2.15pm in the afternoon,” said Karpal to The Malaysian Insider.

According to the veteran lawyer, Anwar’s alibi against Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan’s allegations of sodomy was that, at the time when Saiful had alleged he was sodomised in a unit at the Desa Damansara Condominium, Anwar was in an opposite unit with five other people.

When asked whether these individuals would be called in the course of the trial, Karpal replied in the affirmative.

“Yes, if the defence demands it, then we will call them to testify,” said Karpal.

Another lawyer in Anwar’s team, Sankara Nair, said that the police would give them a reply by 12pm.

Anwar, the 62-year-old de facto leader of PKR, is charged with sodomising Saiful at Unit 11-5-1 of the Desa Damansara Condominium in Jalan Setiakasih, Bukit Damansara here between 3.01pm and 4.30pm on June 26, 2008.

The former deputy prime minister has denied the charge, describing it as “evil, frivolous lies by those in power” when the charge was read out to him. He is charged under section 377B of the Penal Code and can be sentenced to a maximum of 20 years’ jail and whipping upon conviction. The trial is taking place 18 months after Anwar was charged in court in August 2008.

Anwar was charged with sodomy and corruption in 1998 after he was sacked from the Cabinet and was later convicted and jailed for both offences. He was freed in September 2004 and later resurrected his political career by winning back his Permatang Pauh Parliamentary seat in a by-election in 2008, which had been held in the interim by his wife.

He had earlier led the opposition coalition, Pakatan Rakyat, to a historic sweep of five states and 82 Parliamentary seats in Election 2008.

KJ gagal ketepikan saman fitnah Anwar

Ketua Pergerakan Pemuda Umno Khairy Jamaluddin hari ini, gagal dalam permohonannya untuk mengenepikan penghakiman ingkar yang diperoleh Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim dalam saman fitnah RM100 juta yang difailkan ketua pembangkang itu.

Penghakiman ingkar itu dikenakan ke atas Khairy pada 4 Disember 2008, selepas beliau gagal memasukkan kehadiran dalam kes itu selepas writ saman diserahkan kepadanya.

Khairy memfailkan permohonannya pada 20 Februari 2009 lalu untuk mengenepikan perintah itu.

Mengumumkan penghakimannya di kamarnya, penolong pendaftar Mahkamah Sivil Kuala Lumpur, Nazri Yahya juga mengarahkan Khairy untuk membayar kos.

Anwar, 63, menfailkan saman terhadap Khairy pada 7 Mac 2008 kerana dakwaan Khairy pada ketika itu Naib Ketua Pemuda Umno telah mengucapkan dan telah menyebabkan penerbitan di laman sesawang termasuk Malaysiakini.com. satu rakaman klip video bersama sebuah artikel bertajuk "Anwar and kin no threat".

Anwar mendakwa rakaman klip video itu dalam Malaysiakini mengandungi kata-kata fitnah yang diucapkan oleh Khairy di satu ceramah di Lembah Pantai, Kuala Lumpur pada atau sekitar 20 Feb 2008.

Beliau berkata kata-kata fitnah itu antara lain bermaksud beliau terlibat dengan aktiviti berlawanan dengan Islam, tidak mempunyai akhlak mulia dan tidak sesuai memegang jawatan politik atau mana-mana jawatan.

Beliau memohon ganti rugi pampasan RM100 juta, teruk, teladan, kos dan relif-relif lain oleh mahkamah.

Mengaku kekurangan adalah tanda kebesaran jiwa...

KOTA BARU, May 30 — Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim today said PKR members should not discuss internal problems in public, after a weekend of attacks on his performance as Selangor mentri besar.

Khalid has been under heavy scrutiny from his own party after PKR’s loss in the Hulu Selangor by-election and a sand mining scandal.

The embattled leader told PKR’s sixth annual congress that party members must not work against each other.

“In Selangor, we must work together; let’s not quarrel outside and discuss the issues internally or else it will be hard to find a solution,” he said.

However, Khalid said he welcomed criticism from delegates dissatisfied with the state administration.

“The congress has said many things about me and my administration of the state. I am grateful and will try to learn from the criticisms. I was reminded by my wife that as I must be understanding as a leader.

“When I was elected, I am not the best among you so please guide me with your criticisms,” the former corporate chief added.

He said that he understood the request made by delegates for the state to employ party members to local government.

“There are many that are qualified but we not only choose our friends,” he said.

He then announced that Selangor will be the first state to implement a global integrity index

“Last night, I have completed the proposal for the government integrity index. This Wednesday, the proposal will be approved by the exco and ensure that Selangor will practise good governance.

“The Malaysian government does want to enter the global integrity index. Before Malaysia can enter, Selangor will be the first state,” he said.

Khalid also said that the government will appoint an executive councillor to be in charge of the state’s communication.

“I understand that there is a lack of communication between the state and the grassroots. Among the suggestions proposed is that an exco be tasked to handle the communication.

“I agree but we first have to discuss with Pakatan Rakyat leaders. However, I would like to put forward that the exco is from PKR,” he said.

Khalid told party members to be patient and promised that changes will be implemented in the state.

“I am asking for your co-operation. This shows our maturity in how we will elect our leaders in the future,” he said.

Samy sacks MIC sec-gen Murugessan

Presiden MIC, Datuk Seri S Samy Vellu telah memecat S Murugessan sebagai setiausaha agung part itu.

Jawatan tersebut kini diisi oleh pengerusi MIC Negeri Sembilan, T Rajagopalu.

Jumaat lalu, Murugessan telah menyatakan tidak puas hati dengan tindakan pemecatan empat pemimpin parti itu oleh Samy Vellu.

Sebaliknya, kata beliau, mereka harus diberi peluang untuk mempertahankan diri di jawatankuasa disiplin parti.

Beliau merujuk kepada pemecatan dua ahli jawatankuasa pusat MIC, KP Samy dan G Kumar Amaan, bersama dengan timbalan ketua Pemuda, V Mugilan dan pemimpin veteran dari bahagian Petalign Jaya, V Subramaniam.

Keempat mereka dipecat oleh Samy Vellu tanpa didengar oleh jawatankuasa disiplin.

Jika benar seperti yang dinyatakan oleh Utusan Meloya 29/5/10 Anwar janji jawatan TPM untuk DAP ....ia sebenarnya hanya menyusahkan PAS saja.

Inilah hakikat yang Anwar patut tahu dan pertimbangkan (sekiranya betul apa yang ditulis oleh Utusan Meloya itu).

Dilihat dari trend undi orang melayu kebelakangan ini, dapat dilihat bahawa majoritinya balik menyokong BN. Ini bukan suatu yang tidak dijangka kerana melayu memang mudah lupa (tang ni Che Det betul).

Yang paling terasa dengan kembalinya orang melayu kepada sifat asalnya ialah PAS. Kenapa begitu?

Kerana dalam PRU13 PAS akan bertanding di kawasan majoriti melayu. Kalau trend di Hulu Selangor yang memperlihatkan 12% peningkatan undi orang melayu kepada BN berterusan, PAS benar2 perlukan miracle untuk mempertahankan kerusi yang sedia ada.

Dalam keadaan biasa PAS bukan sahaja perlu kepada strategi baru untuk meraih undi melayu malah kebijaksanaan keseluruhan kepimpinan Pakatan Rakyat untuk mengelakkan undi yang sedia ada lari dari genggaman.

Kebijaksanaan yang teman maksudkan ialah sifat tidak gelojoh menjanjikan itu dan ini tanpa melihat kepada sensitiviti pengundi melayu yang masih fragile. Takut nanti yang dikejar tak dapat, yang dikendung keciciran.

Teman juga tidak fikir DAP terlalu gelojoh hendakkan itu dan ini. Tidak nampakpun mereka menuntut yang bukan2. Jadi apa perlunya Anwar janjikan jawatan TPM2 yang memangnya sensisitif kepada majoriti orang melayu?

Apa yang paling penting ialah memperkasakan pentadbiran negeri2 yang diperintah oleh Pakatan Rakyat pada masa ini. Bentangkan polisi2 yang boleh menyakinkan rakyat bahawa negara tidak akan bankrap dan tidak menyusahkan rakyat. Laksanakan kerja dengan cekap, amanah dan bertanggungjawab. Kurangkan politiking yang mengarut2.

Banyak yang perlu dilakukan dalam masa yang singkat. 2 tahun telah berlalu dan terbukti kita boleh buat lebih baik dari apa yang BN lakukan lebih 50 tahun. Namun banyak yang rakyat tidak tahu apa yang telah kita laksanakan. Apakah strategi kita untuk memastikan rakyat sedar dan dapat memenafaatkan polisi yang sedang kita laksanakan.

Pendek kata kita perlukan substance berbanding dengaan retorik.

Hartanah Kg Baru mungkin dibuka kepada bukan Melayu

May 29, 2010KUALA LUMPUR, 29 Mei — Hak pemilikan tanah orang Melayu di kawasan Kampung Baru tidak akan terjejas walaupun masyarakat bukan Melayu bakal diberikan kuota 40 peratus untuk memiliki hartanah di kawasan berkenaan apabila projek Pembangunan Kampung Baru dilaksanakan kelak.

Menteri Wilayah Persekutuan dan Kesejahteraan Bandar Datuk Raja Nong Chick Raja Zainal Abidin berkata ini kerana Jawatankuasa Kerja Tanah Wilayah Persekutuan dan Perbadanan Pembangunan Kampung Baru yang akan ditubuhkan di bawah Akta Parlimen akan bertindak sebagai badan mekanisme penyeliaan kawalan pemilikan Melayu di kawasan itu.

“Cadangan itu bertujuan memaksimumkan potensi pembangunan di kawasan tersebut...apabila kita katakan bukan Melayu, maksudnya ia tidak terhad kepada kaum bukan Melayu di negara ini tetapi mungkin juga pelabur-pelabur luar yang berminat.

“Kalau kita teruskan sekatan kepentingan tanah ini kepada orang Melayu sahaja, saya tidak yakin kita akan dapat nilai tanah, RM4,000 atau RM1,000 sekalipun seperti yang pemilik tanah dan pewaris tanah di Kampung Baru mahukan,” katanya kepada pemberita selepas majlis perjumpaan dengan pemilik dan pewaris tanah mengenai pembangunan Kampung Baru di Pusat Dagangan Dunia Putra (PWTC) di sini hari ini.

Berdasarkan cadangan untuk membatalkan sekatan kepentingan tanah-tanah di Kampung Baru, kaum bukan Melayu akan berpeluang untuk memiliki ruang perniagaan dan unit-unit kediaman yang akan dibangunkan di kawasan itu berdasarkan nisbah 60:40.

Raja Nong Chik (gambar) berkata kabinet dalam mesyuaratnya pada awal bulan ini juga secara dasarnya telah bersetuju mengenai cadangan itu.

Sekatan kepentingan tanah yang terdapat di dalam geran tanah Kampung Baru menetapkan bahawa tanah di kawasan itu tidak boleh dipindah milik atau diduduki oleh kaum bukan Melayu.

Ia secara tidak langsung menjadi satu dilema dalam isu-isu tanah di kawasan berkenaan selain disifatkan akan mengehadkan potensi pembangunan Kampung Baru, sekiranya sekatan itu dikekalkan.

Ditanya sama ada nilai RM4,000 sekaki persegi yang dituntut pemilik dan pewaris tanah di kawasan itu adalah realistik, Raja Nong Chik berkata ia agak tinggi, tetapi tidak mustahil nilai hartanah di kawasan berkenaan akan mencapai tahap itu dalam jangka masa panjang.

Selain itu Raja Nong Chik berkata kerajaan juga telah bersetuju untuk melantik Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB) sebagai pemaju utama dalam melaksanakan pembangunan Kampung Baru. Selain PNB, kerajaan juga menawarkan kepada dua lagi syarikat berkaitan kerajaan (GLC) iaitu Lembaga Tabung Haji dan Pemodalan Hartanah Berhad, katanya.

“Tiga GLC ini kita pilih sebab ia berpegang kepada kepentingan bumiputera. Memang ada GLC lain yang lebih besar tetapi kebanyakannya tidak berasas kepada kepentingan bumiputera.

“Kerajaan pula tidak akan menjadi pemaju...kita tidak ada keupayaan itu sebab itu kerajaan hanya akan menjadi pengawal dan penyelaras bagi projek ini,” katanya.

Manakala GLC yang lain digalakkan untuk menjadi pemilik atau penyewa utama hartanah di Kampung Baru. Kampung Baru mempunyai keluasan sejumlah 122.93 hektar dan berdasarkan penilaian tanah yang dibuat oleh Jabatan Penilaian dan Perkhidmatan Harta (JPPH) pada Mac 2007 yang melibatkan keluasan 54.4 hektar di kawasan itu menetapkan kadar RM270.00 ke RM300.00 per kaki persegi bagi tanah kediaman dan RM500.00 ke RM600.00 per kaki persegi bagi tanah perdagangan.

Majlis perjumpaan itu menyaksikan kira-kira 1,000 pemilik dan pewaris tanah di Kampung Baru hadir, bukan sahaja untuk mendapatkan penjelasan mengenai transformasi yang akan dilaksanakan tetapi turut mengutarakan pelbagai soalan dan pandangan berhubung projek berkenaan.

Hadir sama Timbalan Menteri Datuk M. Saravanan, Ketua Setiausaha (KSU) kementerian Datuk Ahmad Phesal Talib dan Timbalan KSU Datuk Bakaruddin Othman yang mengendalikan sesi penerangan berkenaan dengan baik dan bersahaja.

Rata-rata para hadirin bersetuju supaya Kampung Baru segera dibangunkan, namun isu nilai tanah serta cadangan untuk membuka kampung Melayu itu kepada orang luar merupakan antara persoalan utama yang paling banyak dibahaskan.

Suasana musyawarah dalam majlis itu beberapa kali tergugat apabila ada beberapa pihak yang sedikit emosi ketika menyatakan pandangan mereka.

Bahkan cubaan Anggota Parlimen Titiwangsa Dr Lo' Lo' Mohd Ghazali yang turut hadir di majlis itu untuk menyuarakan pandangan telah dinafikan beberapa pemilik tanah dan pewaris yang hadir kerana menyifatkan beliau tidak ada kena mengena dalam hal ehwal pembangunan Kampung Baru. — Bernama

David Dass: Malaysia will go bankrupt by 2019. What a headline. This shocking declaration goes against the grain of past announcements of economic health and growth. What did we fail to see it before? What happened to our plan to become a developed nation?

A few weeks ago an economics professor from LSC (London School of Economics) said that we could be the next Greece. How were we lulled into such smugness by our previous leaders? What happened to all that oil money? Why did we have to undertake grandiose projects like Putrajaya?

I realise that these statements are designed to shock and condition Malaysians to accept the removal of subsidies and other belt-tightening measures. But the government must accept that Malaysians have become cynical about government expenditure.

Are we spending our money wisely? Are the checks against corruption good enough? Can we stem the flow and waste caused by the leakages? And given how things are, should we not bury Perkasa, 'Ketuanan Melayu' and get on with rebuilding the economy.

Bapak Toyol: The country will not become bankrupt because of subsidies, but will become one because of corrupt Umno leaders.

Kgen: Idris Jala, please cut the subsidy to the toll operators and the gas used by the IPPs (independent power producers) before you cut the subsidy to the rakyat. Can you do that? I think not - the IPPs and toll operators will be the last to be cut, if ever, while the rakyat will be the first.

Can the government force the toll operators not to raise tolls without using public funds to compensate them? Do they need to make obscene profits every year when increased traffic will more than compensate them?

The BN government spends more to subsidise gas for IPPs, who have fat contracts with TNB (Tenaga Nasional), than for subsidising petrol. Yet the first subsidy to be cut is petrol not gas for IPPs, who use the gas subsidy to make obscene profits.

This is a government which robs the poor to give to the rich. Big corporations cannot be touched while the man in the street is a soft target to be clobbered again and again. Why ask the public to accept subsidy removal while the big corporations laugh all the way to the bank?

Anonymous: Sometime around 2002, when 'Mahacon' was prime minister and also finance minister, he introduced exemption on real property gains tax on all properties sold in 2003. Strangely, it was around this time that Ananda Krishnan sold his 49 percent stake in the Twin Towers to Petronas for a sum of around RM2.7 billion.

The gain from this sale was believed to be around RM2.5 billion, which would have attracted a tax of at least of about 20 percent, resulting in a tax payable to the government of about RM500 million. The timing of the exemption was very questionable. Who pocketed the RM500million?

Idris, can you explain Perwaja Steel, BMF (Bank Bumiputra Malaysia), currency speculation by BNM (Bank Negara), over-inflated mega-projects, etc, etc?

Ah Boss: Let Malaysia be bankrupt and seek loan assistance. Sure, the rakyat will have to work harder to pay off the foreign debt with interest, but think of the positive effects in the process such as:

1. All dubious NEP/NEM policies (30% bumiputera participation, APs, etc) that benefit only the cronies and elites (and not the common rakyat) will be abolished once and for all.

2. More transparency and restriction on the movement of our country's fund because any major funds used for projects will need to be accounted for by the loan givers.

3. Monopolised businesses (Astro, Telekom, etc) will come to an end with more foreign companies participating to boost our flagging economy. This will definitely benefit the consumers at large.

Most importantly, this is a wake-up call for the rakyat who have been voting for BN blindly all these years to realise how corrupt the government is in the management of our funds.

Cala: Pakatan Rakyat should consider doing this: fly in a set of political analysts from Greece, Argentina, Zimbabwe, and Singapore. All except Singapore are examples of failed states. Let us learn firsthand from them.

In 2008 the civil service bill was RM40 billion or from each tax payer RM22,800.
We have 1.8 million people paying tax, and 1.2 million people working in the civil service, meaning every 1.5 tax payer support ONE civil servant.
1 million civil servants for a population of 25 million means, that for every 25 Malaysians, there is ONE civil servant.
This is ONE of the highest in the WORLD.
So, Najib, Jala, who is the TONGKAT, why dont you cut the FLAB, instead of making us the RAKYAT carry this TONGKAT for you?

Anwar to expose millionaire turncoats

The Pakatan Rakyat are claiming they have acquired a "solid testimony" supporting allegations that MPs who have defected were offered RM2 million and multi-million ringgit government contracts.

PR de-facto chief Anwar Ibrahim said the testimony provided "explosive" evidence of political corruption practiced by Umno's leadership and their agents.

"We are still waiting for their (defectors) reactions before releasing the information publicly.

We will make a public expose in the near future," he said in a short statement today.

A total of five PKR members of parliament have bailed on the opposition coalition this year, with four jumping off the boat while one was sacked.

The most recent defection was by Wangsa Maju MP Wee Choo Keong, who quit on May 14 over what he claimed was poor handling by the Selangor state government of a corruption scandal involving state-owned mining company Kuala Semesta Sdn Bhd.

The other defectors are Bagan Serai MP Mohsin Fadzli Samsuri who quit on March 3, Nibong Tebal MP Tan Tee Beng (March 1) and Bayan Baru MP Zahrain Mohd Hashim (Feb 12).

Kulim Bandar Baru MP Zulkifli Nordin was sacked on March 6 for openly criticising and lodging a police report against his PR colleagues.

Anwar had apologised earlier this year for picking bad candidates to contest under PKR's flag in the 2008 general election, saying he was "sad that I asked you to vote for these people - I apologise. Now I have been stabbed in the back".

He however implied in an interview with Malaysiakini earlier this week that PKR elected representatives were being "bought over".

Pemuda kecewa PKR masih biarkan amalan KKN dalam parti

ManimaranMay 28, 2010KOTA BARU, 28 Mei — Sayap pemuda Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) melahirkan kecewaan kerana parti itu masih tidak melaksanakan agenda perubahan dengan menyeluruh, sebaliknya muka-muka lama yang mendokong amalan korupsi, kronisme dan nepotisme (KKN) Umno-BN terus dikekalkan.

Ketua Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK), Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin berkata mereka ini yang bergelumang dengan korupsi dibiarkan terus memegang kuasa dalam pentadbiran kerajaan negeri dan syarikat-syarikat berkaitan kerajaan.

“Justeru, kenapa hairan jika kerajaan negeri masih dilihat tidak mampu bertindak dengan sebaiknya untuk kepentingan rakyat?

“Pada Kongres yang lalu, kita sudah memberi ingatan terbuka agar anasir-anasir Umno-BN yang sebati dengan amalan korup ini dibersihkan daripada kerajaan negeri pimpinan Pakatan Rakyat,” kata beliau dalam ucapannya pada Kongres Nasional Keenam AMK di sini pagi ini.

Bagaimanapun Shamsul Iskandar tidak merujuk dengan langsung kes-kes yang dimaksudkan.

Kata beliau, selagi mereka tidak disingkirkan, mereka akan terus-terusan menjalankan usaha sabotaj daripada dalam.

“Mereka ini berusaha secara aktif memburukkan imej kerajaan Pakatan Rakyat dan menggagalkan usaha untuk memberikan khidmat terbaik kepada rakyat.

“Kehadiran secara pasif mereka yang menjadikan rasuah sebagai cara hidup sekalipun, memberikan kesan negatif kepada kerajaan Pakatan Rakyat.

“Harapan mereka hanya satu. Untuk rakyat melihat kerajaan Pakatan Rakyat gagal dan akhirnya Umno-BN akan dapat kembali berkuasa,” katanya.

Shamsul Iskandar menyoal “kenapa kita terus membiarkan anasir korup sebegini terus melakukan sabotaj?”

Padahal mandat rakyat kepada PKR, kata beliau, bukan sekadar untuk memanaskan kerusi Menteri Besar atau semata-mata mentadbir negeri dengan cara lama.

“Rakyat memberi kita mandat untuk menyingkirkan anasir korup Umno-BN ini daripada kerajaan,” katanya.

Tegas beliau, AMK hari ini mempertegaskan kembali perjuangannya menentang KKN.

“Sekiranya kita terpaksa membersihkan parti ini daripada unsur-unsur antireformasi yang mesra dengan pengamal korupsi, Angkatan Muda Keadilan bersedia.

“Kita tidak takut dengan risiko. Kita bersedia menghadapinya, sebagaimana kita tidak pernah gentar memerangi rasuah dalam kerajaan selama ini.

“Kita bertanya kepada elemen-elemen anti-Reformasi, apakah mereka mempunyai keberanian menghadapi kita?” katanya lagi.

Dengan menegaskan perubahan adalah perlu dan tidak pernah mudah, Shamsul menambah, “tetapi kita tidak punya pilihan.”

“Kita tidak boleh menuruti cara lama Umno-BN. Kita mesti punya keberanian, semangat, untuk mencetuskan perubahan dan terus berjuang memastikan perubahan itu berjaya,” katanya.

Shamsul Iskandar juga berkata, AMK juga mendesak agar dasar-dasar bersama Pakatan Rakyat yang telah dicapai secara muafakat tidak dipandang sepi.

Katanya, ia perlu segera digarap dan dilaksanakan dengan tekun oleh setiap kerajaan negeri Pakatan Rakyat.

“Sampai bila kita mahu terus berkempen kepada rakyat hanya dengan bermodalkan bekalan air percuma? Kita perlu merealisasikan wawasan bersama di dalam bidang ekonomi dan urustadbir kerajaan yang baik,” katanya.

Shamsul Iskandar juga berkata kerajaan-kerajaan Pakatan Rakyat tidak boleh bersandar pada kelemahan BN selama ini.

“Benar, setelah lebih 50 tahun memerintah, masih terlalu banyak yang gagal dilakukan oleh BN. Benar, adalah tidak adil untuk mengharapkan kerajaan yang belum pun genap tiga tahun memperbetulkan kesilapan dan memperbaiki semua kepincangan yang ditinggalkan BN,” katanya.

Kata Shamsul, pendedahan itu berkaitan usahawan muda yang didakwa ada hubungan akrab dengan Rosmah dan terlibat dalam merampas tanah Pangkalan Tentera Udara DiRaja Malaysia (TUDM) Sungai Besi.

Bagaimanapun, beliau tidak mendedahkan identiti individu itu sebaliknya menyatakan usahawan adalah lulusan University of Pennsylvania di Amerika Syarikat.

Shamsul Iskandar berkata, usahawan berkenaan juga pernah memperoleh liputan The New York Times kerana bersosial dengan artis terkenal Hollywood seperti Lindsay Lohan dan Megan Fox.

Mengikut laporan itu, beliau dikatakan membelanjakan AS$50,000 semalaman untuk berhibur dan menghadiahkan 200 botol arak berjenama bernilai AS$1,000 sebotol kepada Megan Fox.

Subsidi berterusan: M'sia bankrap 9 tahun lagi

Malaysia menghadapi risiko menjadi negara Greece kecuali rakyatnya menelan hakikat pahit bahawa pengurangan subsidi akan menyaksikan harga petrol, makanan, elektrik dan beberapa barang keperluan tidak dapat dielakkan.

Menteri di Jabatan Perdana Menteri, Datuk Seri Idris Jala, yang juga ketua pegawai eksekutif Unit Penyampaian dan Pengurusan Prestasi (PEMANDU) - sebuah badan yang ditubuhkan bagi mengurangkan bebanan subsidi negara sambil menerangkannya kepada rakyat berkata hutang negara akan meningkat 100 peratus daripada keluaran dalam negara kasar menjelang tahun 2019 jika pemberian subsidi diteruskan.

Subsidi kini merupakan 54 peratus daripada KDNK negara.
Namun semua cadangan pengurangan subsidi berkenaan belum dilulus atau dipersetujui oleh kerajaan.

"Kita tidak mahu menjadi seperti Greece, akhirnya," kata Indris merujuk kepada ahli Kesatuan Eropah itu yang hutangnya menyebabkan ketidak-tentuan pasaran antarabangsa.

Rasionalisasi subsidi untuk pertumbuhan nyata

Malaysia membelanjakan 15.3 peratus daripada perbelanjaan persekutuan bagi menampung subsidi pada bajet 2009 yang menyaksikan defisit berada pada peringkat tertingginya dalam dua puluh tahun.

Katanya, Malaysia perlu merasionalisasikan subsidi untuk bergerak ke depan secara lebih ekonomi, selain menggalakkan pemuliharaan yang lebih tinggi dan mengurangkan penggunaan.

Menurut Idris, Malaysia juga perlu mengikuti perkembangan terkini arah aliran pengurangan subsidi global.

"Bayangkan, rakyat Somalia sendiri kena bayar harga yang lebih tinggi untuk petrol berbanding rakyat Malaysia," katanya pada Hari Terbuka Makmal Rasionalisasi Subsidi di Pusat Konvensyen Kuala Lumpur, hari ini.

Makmal itu yang dibuka dari jam 9 pagi hingga 2 petang hari ini, dilangsungkan bagi mendapat cadangan dan maklum balas daripada orang ramai mengenai rancangan kerajaan untuk mengurangkan subsidi.

Idris berkata, mengikut perangkaan daripada Pertubuhan bagi Kerjasama Ekonomi dan Pembangunan (OECD), perbelanjaan subsidi Malaysia berdasarkan peratusan keluaran dalam negara kasar (KDNK) nominal antara 2006 dan 2009, adalah pada 11 peratus.

Ia, katanya, hampir tiga kali ganda berbanding negara bukan OECD seperti Filipina dan 55 kali lebih tinggi berbanding negara OECD seperti Switzerland.

"Bil subsidi kerajaan tidak berkekalan, terutama berdasarkan defisit bajet dan hutang kerajaan yang semakin meningkat. Ia lebih tinggi berbanding Indonesia pada 28 peratus dan semakin menghampiri Filipina pada 62 peratus," katanya.

Kaya juga dapat subsidi

Menurut Idris, budaya subsidi mempunyai kesan negatif, dengan subsidi kerap dinikmati mereka yang tidak berhak selain tertakluk kepada ketirisan dan penyalahgunaan dan pada masa yang sama menggalakkan gangguan pasaran selain menggalakkan penggunaan berlebihan hasil daripada lebihan pengeluaran.

Beliau berkata, kira-kira 97 peratus daripada subsidi Malaysia diagihkan secara asas "menyeluruh".

"Ia diberi kepada setiap orang tanpa mengira paras pendapatan, sebagai contoh, memberi subsidi untuk pendidikan rendah, menengah dan tinggi, perkhidmatan perubatan, petrol, gula dan minyak masak, selain bantuan kebajikan dan elaun," katanya.

Kerajaan, dalam kerangka kerja merasionalisasikan subsidi, antara lain akan memberi tumpuan terhadap barangan utama bagi mencapai penjimatan yang lebih besar seperti bahan api, gas dan tol dan pada masa yang sama meneruskan subsidi pendidikan, sebagai pelaburan modal insan.

Usaha akan dibuat bagi mengurangkan pembaziran dan penyalahgunaan.

Menurut sumber yang dipetik Reuters, jemaah menteri pada Rabu lalu membincangkan cadangan pengurangan subsidi berkenaan tetapi tiada keputusan dibuat.

The Port Klang scandal, the submarine purchase, the present armament purchases, the giving away of the oil finds to Brunei, the enrichment of sons of ministers and ex PMs who are now billionaires when they were in total dispair after the 1997 crisis, Petronas money where has it all gone, andthe fact ahtat even though we are a net oil exporter we acutally pay the price that allows the governemtn to make a net profit. Khir Toyo is thumping his nose at the state government withsuch arrogance, who else? We pay for everything, tolls, we pay road tax, we pay taxes, what do we get? No places in universities, discrimination even your own people in Sarawak are victim. Get real get the corrupt to account first, seize back what is ours, then we'll all accept the prescription no matter what. This is our country.

Anonymous The government must be trimmed in size, increase the work load of each civil servant, reduce the number of bosses, cut cost having meetings and courses which are unending and go nowhere, reduce public expenditure by having any event without spending a dime, like in other countries- having simple straight-forward events without ostentatious ceremonies and protocol, disallow waste of time doing things which are not beneficial to the public or of benefit only to an individual. You should see how many Pengetuas turn up in a school where a Pengetua is retiring and "needs to be honoured". The honour is doing a job well, not dancing attendance on others at public cost. That can be done in your own time. Just a small example. Having meetings and courses( non-residential) and at government venues where you do not need to waste time travelling a day there and back or pay for food and accomodation.

Christopher Dear Mr Minister, when you started with MAS, the same situation exist, you somewhat turn it around by trimming all leakages, primarily focussing on corrupt procurements such as the RM70 paid for a packet of Nasi Lemak. We also know why you were taken out from MAS for standing firm on this principal which made a certain Umno leader's wife extremely upset. Now as Minister, you are singing a different tune. Why not plug similar leakages in government corrupt spending which the Rakyat knows amounts to easily RM 50b, cut subsidies on IPP and GLCs (another RM 10b), and you will overcome the budget deficit thereafter. Isn't this Rakyat Didahulukan ?

Why is there a need to spend 2.6 Billion to buy prototype Armoured vehicle which is still a prototype? why is there overcharged expenses in ministries where a screw driver can cause thousands? why are there 20 public servants doing the work of 3 people? these are some of the things you should address first! Sulaiman Hikmat We pay taxes, we pay toll to use roads, we pay more then we should for petrol although we are a net exporter of Oil, and now the subsidies have to be withdrawn or "we'll be worse then Greece." How about the billions that have been swiped from us and have landed into the hands of the politicians, what happened to the big oil field that went to Brunei, we know nothing about it,and why, how etc. Khir Toyo has been exposed by selcat, what happened to the billions in the Port Klang fiasco, in the BMF scandal, in the enrichment of the children of politicians, their wives, and themselves, what happend to the billions of Petronas money where did it go, why is ther no accountability, these are the issues we need to probe first. Children of Ministers and ex ministers have become billionaires we need to know how? we need public accountability, we have none. We pay for evertthing here including our Public Toilets, and at the same time we pay to enrich the corrupt UMNO led BN government. Why????

Joker This govt 'think-tank' should think of eliminating wastage in govt spending first. Wastage not only in terms of paying at overpriced 'directly negotiated' prices but more so in ensuring the govt spends on projects which will generate future revenue. Trimming the size of civil servants like freezing new intakes and reducing 'lawatan sambil belajar' will see immediate and significant savings. Spend less on military while increasing budget for homeland security (police) will see better actual security and thus encourage investment & public spending. Reducing sales tax on cars and/or having a really functioning public transport will immediately put more disposal income in the Rakyat's hand, thus increasing consumer/private spending activities. In a nut shell, dont talk about the Rakyat tightening their belts first as we have already tightened since Badawi's time. Govt should spend less and spend smart.
